Go for powered (built-in amplifier) speakers. I have transitioned from bluetooth speakers to stereo bookshelf speakers and I am not going back. I have Q Acoustics M20. And if you need more bass, wait a year or two, save some money, and go buy a subwoofer and connect it with the speakers. I have an SVS SB-1000. For a small to s-medium room you will never get worried about clarity, volume and bass again. If you go bluetooth you will always ask for more. However, if it is for outdoor use spend as much as you can afford to a JBL Partybox (for your budget, I'd recommend 120 or 320). Don't go to Sony (no bass at high volumes, I have a XB-43). Don't go small, as before, you will ask for more very soon.

I have a Sony SRSXB43 and ive tried a few other speakers but can’t find any Bluetooth speaker in the under $300 price range or so that beats the sound quality (including good base). Curious if anyone knows of any or I should stick with it?

Well this isn’t for the dash more like sitting in the back seat on its side, if you have windows down flips or charges won’t cut it past 30 mph. I also have xb43 but again probably too heavy for dash…just seeing them everywhere for great prices with Sonys new line out

I own both the XB43 and the Ult 5. I bought the Ult 5 in December. I'm disappointed; it's bigger and louder, but the bass is less powerful than on the XB43. That's just my opinion.

Sony xb43 is great. With a bit EQ you get neutral, detailed, full bodied and natural sound. No hissing. Try to get one used, as its not sold anymore.

Don't know about headphones but I've taken Sony Bluetooth speakers in the sauna for years with no issues. Anything in the SRS XB range are probably fine. A friend of mine had another brand speaker that looked really similar, same rubber case, same shape and size, same cover over the ports and same buttons. I recommend that they try it in the sauna. It broke the first time.
