Answering just the title, without considering prices, i'd say the best is JBL because it has the most consistency in their sound quality among different models and generations. Answering wich one to buy, i've had the ULT field 7 and the Bose Max so i can speak for them. The Sony is a great speaker, his greatest strength is the battery, it really does last a LOT, the sound is very clear and VERY loud (for comparison, it's louder than a plugged in JBL Partybox encore essential 2), the bass is Deep and punchy and its shape makes it very versatile. The Bose Soundlink Max in the other hand is obviously like half the size but i'm certain that it's on par with the JBL xtreme 4 in terms of bass and volume, so it's very loud, the bass is his greatest strength, it goes incredibly low for the size, and something that i liked a lot is since the drivers are angled, it has amazing spatiality for a non 360 degree speaker. The only problem i had with this one is that the bass starts to distort from 70% volume wich is pretty bad since other speakers usually start distorting from 85-90% volume, although i've heard that is a problem only from the first models and later ones didn't have that problem, but i can't confirm. Nonetheless, 70% still sounds very loud, and it compensates by having a more detailed and natural sound than all other speakers i've tested from different brands.
Only if you can cough up the funds for it.. if I had the spare funds I’d love one.. but after listening to my buddy’s ult 9, I ended up getting the ult field 7.. it’s not the 9 but it hits the spot for me, eventually I’d like that tower or even the ult 10 tower... But $800 is a lot… Like some of the others stated check refurbished on eBay.. might score a good deal.. I bought my ult 7 for 199 refurbished from this seller.. it was spotless when I got mines.. https://ebay.us/m/nUlqBD
I have the ULT field 5, 7 and XG-300.. what you are saying is not true. This is an huge improvement over XG-300 . And for the record sound is not all about bass. The bass is pretty balanced. JBL has an bass that is deeper, but out of balance sound signature. There are people like me who also don't like that
I have the same setup and would advise not to settle for compromises. Get the Harman GP3, and get a second one later / on sale / or refurbished, they often go for 130-150$. I have a pair in TWS at home, wired via $30 LDAC receiver and it sounds vegas! I also tug them outside to the terrace and beach sunset sessions and they rock in stereo setup. You can protect their woofers with a nice grille, and there is a sick carrying case, all cheap enough. Sorry I'm a fan of a great portable sound, and I've had some great success in that venture)
You can't go wrong with Sony also, it's a great one; listen to both at a store if you can , they have somewhat different signatures. For me HK is more transparent and feels at home playing electronic music.
I use the splitter on the R and L RCA OUT and Y cable connecting to the line-in mini jack on each speaker. Works fine with my receiver. Here's the setup: https://ibb.co/5W1wWsXp The difference is cumulative; this setup uses LDAC 990kbps codec, and the audio is noticeably cleaner. It could also be placebo of course, but my living room listening sessions got better. When outside I connect them with traditional SBC and TWS pairing.
JBL Flip 4 JBL Xtreme 3 SONY Ult Field 7 The performance overall in each one, has been more than satisfactory.
sony ult field 7. got one new, open box on macbid for $180, retail is $500. Sound quality is incredible and bass is very deep and does not distort at loud volumes. Cool lights on the sides, battery life of up to 30 hours (and that actually holds up). has an aux port so i can dj with it. ipx67 rated. Genuinely incredible speaker, wouldnt change anything about it. Plus you get an app to tune the eq.
