I use (2) soundcore motion boom plus in paired mode. Waterproof and float for kayaking too
soundcore motion boom plus if you can afford an extra 30 bucks
skull candy barrel xt, soundcore motion boom plus
i havent had that one before but from the 2 big ones i have i like the skull candy better from the bass alone. they are both equally as loud but the soundcores bass isnt as deep but still good and its treble is smoother it also has an eq. if you value deep bass skull candy is the winner if you value smoother treble and having an eq then soundcore is the winner
skull candy barrel xt, this one i got for $67 new. its the loudest and has the deepest bass of all that i have. its a jbl boombox competitor. you can find these on market place or walmart cheap.
Both my MotionBoom+ and Flip 5 have fallen into my hottub repeatedly with no ill effects.
Can confirm, thanks! This is perfection for getting started out and doing small house party gigs. Plus it's awesome for portable general use for something more than the smaller speakers.
Nice review, thanks. Imo, the weight of a portable speaker is 2nd in importance only to it's sound quality. We are very active in the outdoors, so I haul my 2 boomboxes (motion boom plus) all around boats, camp spots, beaches, ski resorts, backyards... They are not only light enough to simply grab n go, but also much much less prone to breaking when dropped or falling vs something heavier.
The Soundcore Booms are great speakers for the size and weight and really great when you factor in the cost. You may just want to grab a second one for parties and wider stereo. The next big step up is the Earfun Uboom X. Not as portable as a Motion Boom because of the extra weight but the bass output is unbeatable for the money. Sounds nice and you can EQ it to sound even better. I would love a Brane X for the small form factor and deep deep bass but $500 is not chump change! You can get a pair of Motion Boom 2 's for $140 and pair of Uboom X speakers for under $300.
I had four Motion Booms, A motion Boom Plus and a Tribit Blast. The blast was best for deep bass. Gave away the heavy Blast to make room for the lighter Earfun UboomX which is $109 at amazon and supposed to match the output of the Blast & Blast2.
I am not ever going to put a 25lb Partybox 120 in a backpack! Hauling around a 12 lb Tribit Blast was bad enough. The 35lb Soundbox is lightweight for a battery powered PA speaker but only needed for really noisy outdoor events & big parties . Overkill for most IMO. The 5lb Motion Boom Plus had a good power to weigh ratio. (Half the weight of a Earfun UboomX).
Yes! I had an original Motion boom plus and it was the best of the speakers on your list but the $130 Earfun Uboom X has deeper bass if that is important to you.
The Motion Boom Plus is 5.6 lb Boombox that is twice the size of the Charge and gets louder which is nice when on the highway and the 90db of road noise drowns out little speakers. I used the one I gave to a buddy on a month long road trip and it rocked the car and campgrounds quite well. Tribit Lava is another 5.5 lb speaker to look into and both it and the Soundcore are way less expensive than the JBL Extreme. That is the JBL model that competes with these other mid sized "high value" speakers . The Motion Boom Plus 2 is even louder but at 8.4 lbs has to compete with the 9lb. Earfun Uboom x which is a better speaker imo.
Try the new firmware update for the Lava. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y2FyR2ZI-k](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y2FyR2ZI-k) The exaggerated deep bass on the Onyx is going to be hard to tame in a small room. Sounds great in big rooms imo. I would put the Onyx in the living room and keep the Earfun for outdoor parties but I like to have a quiver of speakers on hand for every occasion. You have good speakers but they are so close in size that it would be hard to decide which one to keep. I found that the soundcore boom's and Mifa Wildbox that I currently own do not work in the bathroom as well as smaller speakers. (Soundcore motion Plus ftw!) Is the Tribit Lava good in the bathroom or is the bass boomy on that one too?
I've used both the Soundcore motion boom plus and boom 2 plus and honestly they both hit pretty hard. the boom 2 plus has really strong bass, especially for rock or metal type of songs and the motion boom plus is a bit more balanced but still punchy
Motion Boom plus! It's so cheap now and it's a great speaker for 89€
For more volume/sound and better bass, a larger size box sure helps. I recently got a Soundcore Motion Boom Plus. Very happy with it. Good clear sound, good bass but not excessive, and can handle a large space like a double-size classroom. It’s about 15” x 7” X 8”, approx.
I bought the Soundcore Motion Boom Plus in summer 2022 as an upgrade for my Soundcore Motion Boom. But I didn't like it at all. Sure, it's loud, but the sound was somehow quite unbalanced and unpleasant to me and the bass is very punchy but doesn't go deep. That didn't suit my preferences at all. Then in October 2024, I bought two UBOOM Xs and couldn't be happier. I often use one or both indoors at low volume, but also outdoors at private events or gatherings at medium to higher volume. With two UBOOM Xs, you have a mobile sound system at your fingertips that, up to a certain volume, is comparable to a small PA or a mid-range hi-fi system. The UBOOM X is a great speaker with a detailed and full sound. I would choose it over the Soundcore Boom 2 Plus any day. You'll be lucky if you can still get your hands on one. Or maybe two? 😉
If the speaker is going to be permanently placed in one room, I would recommend a pair of active Bluetooth bookshelf speakers, e.g. from Edifier. If a portable speaker is wanted that can also be used for other occasions, a slightly larger speaker will be needed to achieve decent audio quality and full hi-fi sound. In my opinion, the best balance of performance and size can be found among the more compact boombox speakers. The best-sounding models in this category are: 1. EarFun UBOOM X (I own two of these speakers and can vouch for their excellent audio quality.) 2. W-King X20S (I only recently took note of this speaker, but initial sound comparisons are very promising) 3. Tribit Stormbox Blast (1st generation) 4. Soundcore Boom 2 Plus/Pro (with a noticeable gap to third place) Unfortunately, the first three speakers are very difficult to find. Even if a used speaker from a private seller is all that can be found, it's still a very good option. In the smaller speaker class, you can't expect such a full sound. But if the above-mentioned speakers are too big for you, the Tribit Strombox Lava would be an acceptable compromise. The portable Bluetooth speakers from Bose, Sony, and JBL lack one thing: good value for money. Don't let it put you off if my post gets downvoted. Firstly, I'm not particularly popular in this sub due to my blunt language and assertive, confident manner, and secondly, there are a large number of fanboys of brand-name products here.
