Some of the commenters sound a tad elitist with their advice to you. Still helpful nonetheless, but maybe they're used to being able to afford nicer stuff most all the time. I have been able to afford some nicer belongings earlier in life. It's a bit tougher to operate on those levels lately as I age, however. As for Bose portables, I have had 2 of the SoundLink Flex, 2 of the SoundLink micros, and 1 of their SoundLink minis. The mini isn't really what you would expect from Bose and in that price range. Kind of a waste of my time mostly. The micros are solid overall. Compact and good sound and volume. The Flex is good, but for the price of one, I got 2 Soundcore Motion 300s, and 2 of the Select 3s. The Motion 300s are 30 watts apiece of high resonance audio. The details in high quality recordings are noticeable also. Their quality sound and louder overall volume are better than the Bose Flex's in my opinion. Plus, Bose doesn't share the wattage of their speakers for some reason. The Bose Connect app is not even useful about 75% of the time. It very rarely worked correctly for me, and I have had the latest flagship phones and tablets paired to them while owning the Bose series. The pair of Soundcore Select 3s are decent as well, and they provide 16 watts apiece. I pair them with 3 other Soundcore speakers I have, and all combined I am at 348 watts, minus the Motion 300s. The 300s don't utilize the feature of hooking up more than 2 at a time. Which is fine for my needs. I use the 300 series set as a home theater with my tv. When I need to make some more serious noise, I'll pair my 2 Soundcore Boom 2s(80 watts each)and a Boom 2 Plus(140 watts) along with 3 of the Select 3s, as I recently added another. The prices for the Select 3s were in the range of $20 apiece from Soundcore refurb. The 300s were around $50.00 apiece, the Boom 2s were $70-80 each, and the Boom 2 Plus was 150. All refurbs. I am pleased with all of the Soundcores I own currently. All 8 Soundcores were less than $500.00, I had exactly that much tied up in the 4 Bose speakers that will be sold soon, and the difference in what each manufacturer has given me with sound quality and volume is drastically different..only 2 Bose can be paired at a time, and there is no equalizer or sound enhancement in their quirky app. The only portable speaker Bose offers that I may would consider is the S-1..and it's price is beyond my budget. The technology is improving. Hang in there and I'm betting you will find some speakers that do it well for your needs.
I got 2 Anker soundcore select 3s while they were on sale to pair them, then a buddy left his muffled JBL flip 6 to me. All I did to the flip 6 was disassemble it, blow it out, and reassemble it and it sounds clearer and louder than both the ankers combined
