Based on 1 year's data from Feb 24, 2026 How it works
Because you can sync several together, they are incredibly loud, and they float, they are pretty popular with the skiff guys.
It’s a little more than that, QC wise they are pretty much indestructible, I have a gen 1 turtle box and that poor speaker went thru hell. Actually lost it in Charleston harbor for a few days and recovered it by Fort Sumter and it still worked and is working to this day. My only complaint is that the new ones don’t connect to the gen 1 and 2’s because of some firmware change with the blue tooth.
Turtlebox Original Gen 3 does have party mode and sounds great when two of them are paired together in stereo. The Original Gen 3 will also pair with your Ranger. Only downside with the Gen 3 from my perspective is the proprietary charger. Would be nice if had USB-c as the Ranger does (I believe).
My daughter and I each have an Original Gen 3 that pairs in party mode or two channel stereo. A ranger is inbound and will pair with them as well. My daughter is 18 and I’m 60 something. I enjoy the Turtlebox as much as she does. Life is short, buy what you like and enjoy!
I love my turtlebox original, has been through the ringer of lake days and ranch days. pricey though
The original is a bit large. The size can be an issue in a golf cart or if you’re hiking etc. plus it’s like 10lbs and doesn’t have magnets like the ranger so it can become a weapon when not strapped down in a moving vehicle.
Not a fan of turtle box .I bought 2 of the 6×9 boxes for around 5 hundred about 5 years ago and they only lasted a couple of years.
Just got a Turtlebox and it blows every other Bluetooth speaker I’ve had out of the water in sound quality, volume and battery life. It’s also waterproof.
For perspective, the 120dB advertised on the Turtlebox is similar to the exaggerated 126dB advertised by Soundboks on the Gen 3 or 4. They're using a line-level test, instead of a standard 1 meter SPL pink-noise test. Basically they're measuring the current rather than the sound. It's still strange to me that it's so accepted for companies to do this. But it gives a much higher reading than what you, as the user, are going to experience. I have the Turtlebox and EcoxGear Defender and I did a proper standardized test on them together - they both produce 102dB, rather than the 120dB advertised. For comparison, when I tested the volume of the Soundboks 3 at a retailer using a calibrated measuring tool - I got about 5dB more than the Turtlebox. So the Soundboks is certainly louder, but still not as loud as they claim. The volume on JBL's PartyBox Ultimate is crazy though - higher than the Soundboks. But it's not nearly as versatile.
My turtlebox is buy it for life. Heavy. But a tank.
I had two turtle boxes and love them! Connect them and it really blows your mind!
That sounds pretty cool actually. I have speakers in my skiff already, but I checked these out after seeing them in the local fly shop. I chalked it up to just tripling the price for anything fly fishing related as is tradition lmao
Don't believe the marketing hype. There's no way, the Turtlebox reaches 120dB. With that being said, The Soundboks 3 or 4, will be louder than the Turtlebox
