Soundcore Boom 3i Turtlebox Ranger, expensive but built like a tank for any outdoor activity, job site, camping, extreme weather conditions. Tribit Stormbox 2 W-King speakers. Their model naming conventions are very inconsistent so it's easier to just parse Amazon for these and compare on the go.
I have two turtle box speakers. The gen 3 regular model and the ranger. I have to say, they are good for playing music - at high volumes. They do not have great sound quality. I have a few bang and Olufsen speakers that sound far better in terms of quality. The turtles are better for playing very loudly, but that is it. The highs are tinny and the overall mix sounds muddled at pretty much all volumes. All in all, I wouldn’t buy either again. I think for $300-$400, you can get speakers that sound better at normal volumes.
Not super cheap, but TurtleBox rocks. I have the Ranger and their larger model (the Original Gen 2). Both are great.
Dude they dont even let us have the bone conducting ones. Claim its a distraction from whats happening around me. But im allowed to wear earplugs and have a loud speaker and that doesn't count as distracting apparently.
I might get one eventually. I ended up getting my boss's turtlebox ranger since its fully sealed and dust proof. Metal shavings destroy the speaker and im literally surrounded by them all day.
Yeah i can't rationalize a new ones price tag. Especially the grande. 700 for a speaker that size is wild. The ranger is honestly really good though. Its not too loud where I work but its just consistently loud because of a waterjet pump.
I just got one and would agree - the build quality, strong magnets (great for tossing it on the fridge or the golf cart), and loud speaker is top notch. Granted I got mine for free and am not an audio junkie, I think it’s a great option.
Quick update.. The woofer on my speaker blew so i sent it back in via the warranty process, waiting to hear back..
Just got my orange ranger in yesterday and was blown away. The sound was amazing and LOUD to be so compact. Highly recommend this product.
I think it was worth the price. A friend submerged his in water and came out like water off a duck. I guess it’s all in what you want.
To each their own, as I said. I wanted something I could drop in water, get dirty & and still be playing all day. This fit my requirements. I’m happy with the sound quality, especially for the size & weight of it.
Chat GPT sums it up perfectly… 🔊 Sound Quality & Performance • Premium audio in a compact design: Powered by a Class D amplifier and dual 2″ woofers, the Ranger delivers crisp, powerful sound up to 105 dB—enough to fill outdoor spaces without distortion . • Musical fidelity: Listeners on GearJunkie praised its ability to reproduce nuanced jazz and classical—capturing breathy trumpet tones and piano subtleties—normally reserved for much larger units . ⸻ 🛡️ Durability & Waterproofing • Rugged build: Fully drop-, crush-, and dust-proof, it withstands rocky trails, sand, and repeated tumbles—users report zero scratches even after months of rough use . • Water resistance: With an IP67 rating, the Ranger can be submerged up to 3 ft for 30 minutes. Tests in rivers, swamp conditions, and muddy water confirmed reliable, uninterrupted performance . ⸻ 🔋 Battery & Connectivity • All-day battery: The 25.2 Wh lithium-ion battery delivers full-day playback on moderate volume . • USB-C charging: Fast, universal charging that can even power your phone—a handy bonus during long outings . • Bluetooth 5.4: Reliable pairing within ~100 ft, with seamless on-the-fly touch controls for play/pause, track skip, and loudness . ⸻ 🎉 Party Mode & Stereo Pairing • Endless speaker pairing: Connect multiple Rangers via “Party Mode” for a synchronized, expansive soundstage . • True stereo: Pair two Rangers in TWS mode to create a left-right stereo experience—ideal for more immersive setups . ⸻ 🏞️ Portability & Outdoor Utility • Compact yet rugged: Weighing just 2.4 lb (8.05″×3.15″×3.15″), it’s surprisingly easy to pack for hiking, paddling, or beach days . • Magnetic tie-downs and rubber bumpers: Secure it to bikes, boats, or tailgates; magnets do attract sand or metal debris, but they clean off quickly . ⸻ 🧭 Final Verdict For $250, the Turtlebox Ranger offers a sublime mix of audio clarity, durability, and portability—a true standout in outdoor Bluetooth speakers. If you want sound that’s bold, resilient, and adventure-ready (all in cheerful orange!), the Ranger is a top-tier choice that lives up to the hype.
The battery life so far is excellent. I did a full charge when I got it and have had it over a week and played it several hours at the time daily and still don’t need a charge. The reason I wanted this one was for using with our side x side but haven’t had the opportunity to yet. The magnet is strong in it. It’s louder than I expected for the size but I can’t give you an answer yet on how it’ll be when riding. I primarily wanted it for camp and for Bluetooth helmets so the volume shouldn’t be an issue in our case. My husband was mowing the lawn and I could hear it perfectly well and didn’t have the volume up at all. A friend has the larger one, next size up, not the largest, and takes it out to an island here on the coast of MS and there’s typically 40-60 people there and it’s perfect for that. It’s too much for just my husband and I and a few couples though. The cool thing about it is that when you have a pair, they work as a true left and right speaker in party mode. Another friend of ours has the ranger too and it was pretty cool. I’ve caught a lot of hate on here for being happy with mine but I truly am. It’s rugged, can handle falling into the water and sticks to almost anything metal and the sound is good enough for me. I’m sure the type of music you listen to could make a difference in sound as well so there’s that. Go on YouTube and listen to some reviews, that’s what sold me.
Thank you for this. I felt like crap after all the remarks. I’m 59yo and a female, not that females don’t know a thing or two about speakers, but I’m not one of those that does. I just know that for my lifestyle and what I wanted it for, it fits the bill. It’s like I told someone, I’m sure the type music you listen to would play a role in how good/bad the sound is to you. Back when rap was my thing, I’m not sure this would’ve had the bass I would have wanted but now that I’m more into Zack Bryan , Tyler Childers and others in the same folk genre, this is perfect. I wanted something that could take bumps, water and mud and I could attach to our side x side and 4-wheelers and not take up space, again, this was the perfect fit. I personally feel the quality is there and $250 is a fair price. Heck, now I think I want the next size up! The original is the next size I believe but doesn’t have party mode if I’m not mistaken. I really like that feature a lot. Need to do my homework and go check the website to see. Thanks again!
