Bose SL Flex 2 is a great unit, especially at the price point. B&O lower end models are unfortunately lacking in the bass department but their directivity is damn good. Personally the UE models weren’t all that great. I appreciate a better range versus directivity which is why I went with the Bose. For the size, I would say the Bose has the deepest bass for the size while handling mids and treble well. I tried: UE Megaboom 4, B&O Explore, Bose SL Flex

r/Bluetooth_SpeakersHonest review of the Ultimate Ears Megaboom 4: splendid, but it’s time to evolve 💙
3 months ago

Hello everyone, After several months with the Ultimate Ears Megaboom 4, I wanted to share an honest opinion. I'm a former big Ultimate Ears fan, so I know their style well... and I also see when things go a little off the rails. Which is always very good • Solid construction UE knows how to make things robust, and that hasn’t changed. It’s a speaker that you can carry around everywhere without stressing out. • Very good autonomy Clearly a strong point. It lasts a long time, even at high volume. • Design as beautiful as ever Minimalist, practical, recognizable. No need to reinvent the wheel too much here, if only to change the sound architecture. • Decent power It sounds strong, and without over-saturating, a very good sound. Where it starts to get stuck It's especially on the sound that I find that it stagnates, it is not always impeccable. Some distortion in the bass due to the incorrect distance: too tight a space for breathing, and for passive radiators. She has a lot of trouble, especially with sounds that require more bass. • Sound signature too “frozen in time” UE has not really renewed its signature, and not only on the MEGABOOM 4 in fact. We find a rendering close to the old Megaboom, but... the market has evolved, and not enough. • Lack of warmth and body The mids still lack thickness and the vocals are present but not physical enough, even a little artificial, it reminds me a little of the cold signatures of Bose. It sounds clean, but a little hollow. For vocal or acoustic music, you quickly feel the limits. • Bass not deep enough They are present, but less impactful than recent competition. A JBL Charge 6 seems livelier and more substantial, surprisingly. • Very little improvement compared to the Megaboom 3 It looks “more recent” on paper, but not on the ear. It lacks a real sound lift. In brief The Megaboom 4 remains a good speaker, solid and fun... but its sound signature gives the impression that UE is playing it a little too safe. With real work on the mids, a little more depth in the bass and a more modern signature, it could largely regain the advantage. UE has all the potential to come back strong but we just need to no longer be afraid of risk, as in the past.

For excellent clarity and fair bass try the Ultimate ears mega boom 4. I've had the 3 for several years and it's a champ

Have u tried the megaboom 4? Got it for like 100 bucks. Not sure if i should switch it for the charge 5. Im not the biggest bass person. I have tinnitus so im more for crisp and clear music/vocals then bass as it can aggravate it if its too much.

JBL Charge 5/6 good sound quality. UE MegaBoom 4 good 360 sound. If you need it louder it goes up in size...

r/Bluetooth_Speakersbest waterproof bluetooth speaker around $200?

If you like the UE sound and design style, I'd go for a MEGABOOM 4 (maybe an EVERBOOM or EPICBOOM if you want something a little larger). The 360-degree design of the UE speakers is a real benefit IMO. And they all play nicely together in Party mode.

The bose has a remarkably balanced sound profile, so it suits most genres. It also has a built-in mic which is nice if you use voice assistant stuff. That said, the jbl charge 6, though larger, is probably better as it gets a touch deeper and noticeably louder than the bose, and its battery life is almost double. The JBL is more expensive but should still fit in your budget. you could also consider the Megaboom 4. It has a touch of extra...boom...but you can EQ that out if you find it too muddy. personally, i really like the 360-degree design as it sounds similar regardless of your listening angle which is handy in a portable speaker.

If soundstage is a priority, something with a 360-degree design like a UE Megaboom 4 would work well. If you're sticking to indoors, an Onyx Studio 8 on sale could do the job, tho it's not 360-degrees, it does have two tweeters for some stereo separation.

i second the bose soundlink max for your use case. BUT you'll want to check out its weight and dimensions to be sure it's the right size. "fit in my backpack" can mean a few different things depending on the size of the backpack and how much space you're happy for the speaker to take up haha. if the max is too big, consider the bose soundlink flex (2nd gen), or one of the ultimate ears boom/megaboom 4 speakers, or maybe the JBL charge 6. but yeah size is very important here when it comes to narrowing down your options.

Ultimate Ears megaboom rocks. Have and one for nearly 10 years and still punches bass and had great battery and water proofing.

I can't comment on the Hyperboom as I've never heard one. However, I have heard various generations of the Boom and Megaboom and I can tell you that these definitely don't sound good at all.
