Flip 6 or 7, put them next to a Charge and you would be confused as to what went wrong with the Charge models. They just lack the bridging ooomf that they should have, the sound does not match the price, size and look. Go flip 6 or 7 you won't be disappointed or UE Boom 3.
I've been through three bluetooth speakers in the last two years and they all have the same problem. They sound fine when I'm doing dishes or have people over, but the second I want to play something at like 20% volume late at night while reading or cooking dinner solo, everything turns into a thin tinny mess. Bass disappears, vocals get this weird hollow quality, and I end up just turning my phone speaker on instead. I get that there's some Fletcher Munson loudness curve thing happening at low volumes but most consumer speakers don't seem to engineer for it at all. The auto loudness compensation on some of them actually makes it worse, like it's pumping fake bass that sounds boomy and disconnected from the rest of the mix. Most of what gets recommended in this sub is built for parties or beach use. I want something specifically meant to live indoors and sound decent at conversational volume. Doesn't need to be portable, doesn't need to be waterproof, just needs to not sound like garbage at the volume I actually use it 90 percent of the time. Mostly trying to figure out if this is a driver count thing, a tuning thing, or just a spend more money thing.
I have had a boom 3 for many years. It’s awesome and keeps kicking no matter what. Just wish it was usb c
Try UE Boom 3 or 4. They are far from perfect, but at least they don’t blink and you can swim with them.
Yes I tried the ABS client for listening, and didn't like it.. as I already keep a log of all the books I read I don't need to mark the ABS books as read. (I mean I do it.. but that's just because I'm a bit compulsive 😅) I'm listening to more than 20 books a month, so I guess my system is pretty ingrained now. Thanks for the suggestions.
I used my old UEBoom speaker when I'm cooking in the kitchen. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have any cut out, but I keep it plugged in permanently as it's battery went dodgy a while back. Complete conjecture on my part, so my thought is that perhaps speakers are attempting to switch off in moments of silence, so as to save power and extend battery length.. have you tried using a Bluetooth speaker that is charging, because it may not have those same power saving quirks? Good luck!
Such good speakers, I have the UE boom 3 and absolutely love it. Had the original boom for years and years, was all beat up but worked perfectly and then I lost it so I got the 3, found the first gen and now have it as a backup. And you said "USB-B" idk what that it or if it was a typo and your saying it doesn't have a port at all but the boom 3 has a type c post with a super thick cover which I love. Never ever thought "I wish this speaker was louder" so the regular boom is perfect for me, HIGHLY recommend
