I've been using the ASUS ZenScreen for past year with my macbook and it works pretty well in bright environments. Got mine for around 200 euros and brightness is decent enough for outdoor cafes, though you still need to find some shade on really sunny days

I've looked into this before and honestly using a laptop as an external monitor is pretty limited - most laptops don't have video input ports, only outputs. What helped me when i needed portable display was getting a dedicated portable monitor. They're surprisingly thin and light, like the Asus ZenScreen or Lenovo ThinkVision portable displays. Tbh they connect via USB-C or HDMI and fit in a backpack easily. For your work travel situation, a 15-17 inch portable monitor would give you proper external display functionality without the laptop compatibility headaches.

Bro, why not just ask a Chinese company and you would already have products shipped years ago. And why would you want glass and aluminum? There's only one reason to buy such a product and it's for travel. It has to be as light as possible. I own an Asus Zenscreen portable monitor and I already find it not always worth it to take with me on flights at only 700 grams. Can't image ever carrying yours.
