Mine just overheating when I turn it on
Save and buy a better one. I threw away 3 cheap monitor in 2 year just for the poor quality. Now I have a Shinobi II but if I’d bought it straight away, I would have spent half as much
if the jump actually gives you meaningfully better brightness, reliability, and monitoring tools. Outdoors on an a6700 is exactly where cheap monitors can get frustrating fast if brightness or UI sucks. That said, not every €400 monitor is automatically twice as useful as a €200 one. I’d prioritize real-world daylight visibility, waveform/false color, weight, and battery life over brand hype. My general thought: if the cheaper option truly solves focus + exposure well, great. But if you’re already hearing “I wish I’d just bought the Shinobi,” that usually says something. For monitoring, frustration compounds every shoot.
i feel you on pulling focus without waveforms, gets old fast. the shinobi 2 is solid but closer to 400€. for your budget and 2000 nits, check the Feelworld F5 Pro X or Portkeys LH5P - both hit around 2200 nits and are lightweight. viltrox dc-x2 is fine but only 1700 nits, might struggle outdoors. if you can stretch to 400€, shinobi 2 is worth it for the build quality. [Feelworld F5 Pro X](https://featherab.com/shopit?feelworld+f5+pro+x) or [Portkeys LH5P](https://featherab.com/shopit?portkeys+lh5p) are your best bets under 300€.
Another vote for shinobi II. You get touch to focus and can put a hood over it. I have used it for 3+ hours of on-time in direct sunlight on 95°+ days and not had an issue. Batteries go fast, but if you’re using a vmount or other big battery to power your rig it will route power to the fx3 through the usb-c cable you’re already using for controls. Only issue I’ve had with the shinobi II is if I’m shooting log and want cine EI or cine ei quick. The onboard controls won’t move the iso between high and low base. In flexible iso or non-log shooting it’s fine and can control easily.
I have the atomos shinobi II, I used it on my FX3, and now on my FX6. It’s been great, nice large display, plenty bright, exposure tools and it’s pretty affordable. With new firmware updates last year, it now has camera control for Sony cameras.
