TL;DR: Sturdy build; pass-through charging; but 1080p only.

I do not recommend the asus screens with "go" in them. the inbuilt battery will not be charged by the laptop while in use I use a mix of Lenovo m14d and m15 as i wanted something lightweight

I've got a work from car setup that I use when on the road, I've got a fold up table that rests on the arm rests in the centre and on the door. Then I have a portable monitor like this with a hard stand that's strong enough to hook the monitor upside down on the top of the steering wheel. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09CQ8R3SZ With the steering and chair adjustment, I can get it comfy with either a small Bluetooth keyboard and mouse with the portable monitor in a decently ergonomic position, or put a laptop on the table to have a dual vertical monitor setup. Add in a decently sized powerbank (monitor has passthrough power but otherwise a dongle of some sort) and you're sorted for a day.

You should search for an USB-C Monitor with Power passthrough both ways. So you only need 2 USB-Cables (one can be very short), the monitor and the phone. You connect the power source to the USB-C monitor, may it be a powerbank or a power adapter. Then you connect the monitor (by the monitors other USB-C Port) with the short USB-C cable to the phone and that's it. This way your phone gets even charged while using DEX. These monitors can be somewhat hard to find. They need two USB-C ports (and nothing more). You need to read the description of the monitor carefully. The monitor must be able to power the phone, not only the other way round. I'm using a Lenovo M15 portable USBC monitor. It's relativly cheap and light. what i use : [https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/accessories-and-software/monitors/office/62cauar1us](https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/accessories-and-software/monitors/office/62cauar1us) got it a few years ago and it has held up like a tank. the only downside is that it is 1080. if buying one today i would go for the 1440p or 4k. edit: i just noticed that i linked to the non-touchscreen version i have the touch screen version so i dont need to pack a keyboard or mouse, ( i have a mini pc & mac mini that i use often with the touchscreen for simple vjing gigs )

I have the same one and it's incredible. I love that it only needs a usb cable and it's ready to go.

I've looked into this before and honestly using a laptop as an external monitor is pretty limited - most laptops don't have video input ports, only outputs. What helped me when i needed portable display was getting a dedicated portable monitor. They're surprisingly thin and light, like the Asus ZenScreen or Lenovo ThinkVision portable displays. Tbh they connect via USB-C or HDMI and fit in a backpack easily. For your work travel situation, a 15-17 inch portable monitor would give you proper external display functionality without the laptop compatibility headaches.

I use a portable monitor from [Lenovo](https://a.co/d/6D1J9UO). It’s on the spendy side (almost at your budget). But I’ve had it for almost 3 years now and it’s never given me any problems.
