I have a 16" 2.5K display I got a few months ago from Portio and I'm really happy with it overall. I work in Insurance and travel frequently for work. I think size-wise 16 feels perfect. It's bigger than my Macbook screen, but still very light and fit in my bag. Not sure if the 2.5K is needed, or you can just go with 1080p but I'm very pleased with the visuals on the one I got. However, working on it when you have direct sun on it is challenging. I'm not talking cafes, but more of outdoors. I had to do it once or twice, and wasn't really able to work with it properly. I think that in order to work in a highly lit spots you'll probably need a OLED , and those are a lot more expensive. I'm happy with mine. Great value for money.
The price of decent portable monitors is actually much lower than what it used to be, though there are some expensive models. I remember checking out Sotsu and giving up because of the price. I know some people who use their iPad as a second screen, but I just couldn't see how 11-inch really helps me. I ended up with a portable monitor from a brand called Portio and I have to say I'm pretty happy with it. I don't remember the specs exactly, but it's the 16-inch model, and personally I can't tell the difference between it and my MacBook's display.
Well I got a 16", 2.5K portable monitor for my MacBook Pro and experienced the small text issue. I actually lowered the resolution on the portable monitor by a bit and that worked great. I admit I didn't research too much before buying, but just needed a second screen when working on my laptop. Got mine from a brand called Portio. I use it almost daily for a while now and it's pretty good.
