UPERFECT - 16" 2K HDR Portable Monitor

I have a UPerfect 2k 120hz 16" 500 nits monitor. Note that a lot come in 300 nits and that just doesn't seem bright enough for my tastes. Overall it's fine w/ the laptop, but trying to game on it w/ the SFF has it feeling really small as it's hard to see things. This one needs a separate PD charger to get to full brightness. Some modern motherboards and monitors support single usb-c display/power to like 4k/60hz. But I'd rather go w/ the separate charger option to get more frames. There are better models you can get cheaper on aliexpress if youre willing to wait up to 2 weeks. The exact same monitors from aliexpress are on amazon with a huge markup. I got my portable monitor which is 1440p 144hz vrr for $160

i own 2 of these a d travel with them any time I travel. Actually I love them so much I bought monitor stands and vesa brackets for them to use them when i’m home too. When I travel I break them down and take everything with me. Have been finding ways to work with a portable monitor, and seems like I found a practical way for now. Using a double-slot laptop stand to slot in the legion go, with the monitor at the front. Previously I used the magnetic folio that came together with the 16" Uperfect monitor, slotting in the legion go behind the monitor. Worked but was prone to toppling when i move around. Sharing here if anyone had a similar use case!

Has the same resolution (1600p), aspect ratio (16:10), and refresh rate (144hz with usbc) as the legion go. Best part is just 1 wire to the legion go without needing to power it separately! Can get from Aliexpress as well.

I probably wouldn’t honestly, look at UPerfect on Amazon, I have the 2560x1600 120hz and the resolution is definitely overkill tbh but it’s worth it imo. Edit: the 16 inch model to be specific

It looks good in theory but is surprisingly annoying to setup to make sure its properly clamped to your laptop and that it won't be putting unnecessary weight on the hinge. Depending on how tight the space is it might not be possible to open both sides which means one side is just awkward and unusable (unless one screen can be detached). I prefer the simple standalone portable monitor setup. Also, for portable monitors I recommend looking for one above 400 nits (brightness). Many portable monitors are quite dim - sometimes unusable in daylight. I personally wasted money on one before. FWIW my wife and I have been a digital nomad for 3-4 years and we've been using those regular standalone portable monitors from uperfect. We've been pretty happy with them and they're thin and light enough to bring around.

I won’t go for 4k. It’s an overkill for portable monitors smaller than 19in. It may not be able to be powered by just a USBc from your MacBook too. I'd recommend getting one that is brighter. The one you linked is only 250cdm2 which is pretty low. I would look for something that either has >400 nits or have reviews saying its bright. It has 400 nits and IME 2k resolution is the sweet spot for portable monitors. 2k is crisp enough so my eyes won't get tired reading blurry text. Anything higher is overkill for screens below 20 inches, plus you'll likely need to plug in an extra power cable. Its more expensive though so if you want something cheaper the Z1FC Arzopa at the top is on sale now on amazon i think and is at least 300cdm2 and has reviews saying its bright enough.

I know a lot of people just say to get 1080p monitors, but I recommend a 2560x1600 or 2560x1440 monitor so you can just run games at the Deck's 1280x800 or 1280x720 resolutions and have it scale nicely. For brands, Azorpa and Uperfect seem to get recommended a bit if you're looking on Amazon. I have a 16" Uperfect 2560x1600 and it works great for me. I don't know exactly what you mean by small-ish.

nice. i just got a uperfect 16" "gaming monitor" to use in the the same way, although vertical. been using dual 27" monitors for years, but found i really only use half the screen on the 2nd monitor really, mostly for email and notes and the occasional document/brief. figured i'd try and free up some desk space. i'm also a graphic designer so "the work" only really happens on my studio display in the middle. haven't set up the uperfect yet, i know its not as nice resolution out of the box, but since it's only really for "side items" i'm not overtly concerned about it. similarly priced, that arzopza looks pretty slick. the main reason i got the uperfect is barely any bezels and no "chin" chunk and no logo. it's basically just a rectangular screen. hope it does the trick! love your set up. nice posters and color scheme all around.
