I have one like this ([this one, $61](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TWGBG3P)) and it has mounting holes in the back. The one I linked is also technically HDR (although the HDR looks like shit compared to my regular LG flat panel).
I picked up a 15.6" monitor on Amazon over the summer for about $65. I rarely travel, but I was visiting my sister and extended the stay by splitting it 50/50 pto and working remotely. It fit nicely in my backpack, though it has a thin bezel around the edges so I was worried something would fall on it and puncture the screen (it was fine! Nothing happened) https://a.co/d/71TF234 Since then, I've seen several other monitors by similar brands for a similar price point
I bought a bunch of “ used “ portable monitors from this company on eBay . I paid $30 ish for about this spec and it’s brand new as far as I can tell. Think it’s called upperfect
I guess the answer is going to depend on how much stuff you're willing to haul around the lapdock is going to be the least amount of crap to carry, as it's a keyboard, trackpad, screen, battery, all in one package. you CAN get better stuff individually, but for the 200 budget, it's going to be tight.... the brand new nexdock is 200, and it's really pretty good. I'm really pretty happy with it. it has better screen and speakers and especially trackpad than previous versions IPS/high brightness/high resolution are all things you're not going to find on a lapdock they're all pretty basic 1080p60 screens (some are IPS, some are TFT). none of them are going to blow anyone away, but they're perfectly serviceable the uperfect udock 15.6 might have the best screen, as it's 1080p120, but it starts to get a bit large, compared to the others fwiw, I have ALL the lapdocks, I typically only travel with the nexdock 360 (wireless) for it's size and versatility at home, I pretty much always use the nexdock XL or the Uperfect 15.6 (they're functionally identical)
I currently have a cheap 15.6 UPERFECT portable monitor which works fine, but I'm wondering if there are any cheap portable monitors around that same size that don't need to be plugged into a battery bank? I've seen portable monitors with built in batteries which is cool, but are above my preferred price range ($100). Maybe something slightly smaller? I really just use Dex on my couch on a lap desk for basic productivity (email, WhatsApp, Google Docs and Sheets, etc.) so pretty 4k HDR specs aren't necessary. Trying to optimize set up and have the least number of cords possible. For reference, I'm running my Dex setup off of a Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus Thanks in advance! UPDATE: Thanks so much everyone for the input! I ended up purchasing the same cheap portable monitor as u/Franky_Mars & u/TheWalkingZen (KYY Portable Monitor) and it arrived this morning (Amazon ftw), and it's exactly what I needed. The 50% brightness is fine for working while on the couch in short spurts and was in my price range. Maybe I can convince my wife to let me get them fancy XREALs or a Sotsu monitor one day when our kids aren't burning holes in our wallets!
I bought the Uperfect M156A18 3 years ago and it still works just like the first day. Prices have dropped so now they are under $€100
How small are you looking for? I have two 15.6 inch monitors from Uperfect and one 10.5 inch touch monitor from Intehill that all have full HDMI. The 18.5 inch touch monitor from Eviciv is mini, go figure. For all of them though, I just use USB-C, since the reference 7900 XTX and my mini PCs have the port.
