I've been happy with my ViewSonic VA1655. It's light, about 15.7", and can work with a single USB-C to USB-C cable for both video and power. It can also pass power through to the laptop when a USB-PD charger is connected to its second USB-C port. If needed, you can connect it via HDMI, but you then need to provide additional power to the display. It has good, but not super accurate, color and crisp text. Color is fine for anything other than image editing (e.g. Photoshop, ...).
r/Surface β’ Travel-Friendly Portable Monitor for My Surface Laptop 7th Gen? ->It has a "plasticy" housing. They offer essentially the same display is a "better" aluminum case (VG1655) for a little higher price and offer a touch enabled version (TD1655). From what I've been able to gather, they are all the same display other than housing and the touch digitizer. My boss has the LG Gram Portable Display (16", 3k, very accurate color) which cost around $400USD. It is USC-C only. It's a great display, but is 3x the price of my VA1655. I do heavy Photoshop work when traveling, but I keep Ps's display on my 16" 3k notebook's internal display and use the VA1655 for ancillary apps (email, project notes, ...) so crisp text is critical but great color isn't.
r/Surface β’ Travel-Friendly Portable Monitor for My Surface Laptop 7th Gen? ->There are a lot of portable displays that allow for external power. These generally follow the same pattern as my ViewSonic VA1655 where there are two USB-C ports on the display, one to connect to your computer and one to connect to a power supply. If the power supply is a USB-PD supply of adequate wattage then power will pass through to the computer as well. My Surface Go (original) powers my ViewSonic VA1655 fine. The VA1655's specs claim that the max power consumption is 7.3w.
r/Surface β’ Portable Monitor for MS Surface Go3 ->The Surface devices can deal with secondary displays with different aspect ratios just fine. I like the [Viewsonic VA1655 portable display](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09237LL5Q/) for a lot of reasons. Good image and only $100 on Amazon. It has a built-in stand that supports Portrait AND Landscape orientation. It has both a mini HDMI jack, and it works great via USB-C Alt-Display Port mode, so you only need one cable to both connect the video signal and to provide power. It has two USB jacks, so you could also run a power adapter to the display, and then that single USB-C cable will send power to the computer. It's also pretty well built and lightweight. I don't even bother using it's little padded sleeve when it is in my computer bag. When I expect to be doing a lot of portable work at a desk, then I also bring a folding "floating" display stand: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BTDHQJ6X/ . This allows me to put the Viewsonic "above" my laptop display for a vertical twin display setup. I get a lot of inquiries about how I am doing this when people see it. It's VERY productive.
r/Surface β’ What portable monitor do you recommend for a surface laptop 7 ->This. I've got two. Use them with 15.6" Viewsonics. They're very stable, very configurable, very light, and very compact. And I like them very much.
