Went through a few last year - difficult to find one that does pass through charging and VRR. I returned an ASUS one and a couple of random name Amazon ones In the end I stuck with https://amzn.eu/d/7rNs75T

I like my Viewsonic 17”. I’ll need to look up the exact model number. Works perfectly with my Steam Deck; haven’t tried it with my MacBook, but I can. Edit: it’s a VX1755. 17”, 120 Hz, FreeSync, no HDR. Looks like a successor model, curiously the VX1754, is coming soon: https://www.viewsonic.com/global/products/lcd/VX1754

I have a ViewSonic portable monitor, a little on the big side at 17", and it does this. The monitor has two usb-c ports, one for power only and the other for video and bi-directional power. If I simply plug my laptop into the video port, my laptop will provide power to the monitor. If I connect a PD power adapter to the power only port, it will not only power the monitor but also pass through power to charge my laptop. I think it came with a 60W adapter but I have also used a bigger one. I think it might be limited to 45W pass-through but I am not positive. EDIT: I looked up the specs and it states 60W. Model vx1755. It also has HDMI input as well, which obviously you need to supply power through the USB port for that to work. I've been really happy with it. It is big, but that is what I wanted.

It really depends on your phone and monitor. My S23U can power my ViewSonic 17" monitor. The monitor somehow knows it's only getting power from the phone and reduces the brightness to allow it to work. Now it does drain the battery on the phone pretty quickly, but for short periods it works great. When I either plug the monitor into a laptop or give it external power it goes back to full brightness. It can also pass power through to either the phone or laptop. Now I've heard that newer phones just can't provide enough power. I'm not sure if Samsung purposely did this to improve battery life, reduce strain on the battery or it was cost savings.

I have a ViewSonic 17" portable monitor with this capability and it is so useful. My S23U can actually power the monitor on it's own, but obviously it is a huge drain.
