u/ajf1413, I'm a huge fan of multiple monitors. Arrayed before me are five screens at the moment. Three are on the computer, a tablet I have for apps with security risks (e.g. Zoom, TikTok), and my phone set up to show the notifications screen all the time. One of the computer monitors is a portable. I travel regularly with laptop, portable, and phone. Many portable monitors have a folio cover that is supposed to also serve as a stand. I have yet to find one that serves well. I have a customer who made me a lovely stand of finished wood. It is a treasured gift. You can get good stands from places like RAM. Even if you don't anticipate traveling, get a stand that collapses. I'll be first to admit that my use case includes a lot of "stuff" that plugs into and is powered by USB. You may not have so much "stuff." It still makes sense in my opinion to get a powered USB hub. No one has enough ports on their computer and lots of power hungry "stuff" to plug in. I don't crawl around on the floor as easily as I once did and I don't want things plugged in to charge all over my office - I want them on my desk where I can reach them when I want them. I have an ASUS M168b. USB powered so no power brick. It's very robust - it's been flung across the cabin at sea on small boats several times. It's about five years old I think and the USB port on the monitor is getting loose. Given the abuse it has suffered at sea and by TSA I call it pretty tough. Cheap. I have an Anker 7-plus-3 powered hub. I'm still about two ports short of everything having a place to plug in. Again - I have a lot of stuff: phone, two sets of AirPods, cellular hotspot, satellite tracker, GPS, AIS receiver, marine VHF radio, the display, WiFi enabled external drive, rechargeable flashlight. I looked at the link for the display you are considering. It's pretty expensive and I question the value of a touchscreen in an office setting.
Full discussion on Reddit ->I have a reference 6800xt with a USB C port. I plug my Asus portable monitor into it and use that screen to monitor temps and such... works perfectly
Full discussion on Reddit ->I have an Asus ZenScreen which has its own cover / stand. I love it but they are easy to break ( its my second ) and its a pain in the arse at busy airports having to try and get it and laptops etc sorted for security screening while being gentle.
Full discussion on Reddit ->I use the ASUS MB166C which is a single USB-C cable monitor. My main usage is work so I wasn't looking for high specs but it is 5ms Response Time and 60Hz Refresh. Biggest selling point for me was a screw input mount that allows me to use a portable tripod as a stand.
Full discussion on Reddit ->I believe it handles both. I use an Asus ZenScreen that does, at least. It's a great combo with the new M1 / M2 Macbooks.
Full discussion on Reddit ->Will the usb-c to display port be able to power on the monitor?
Full discussion on Reddit ->Found one. They offer [Display port](https://a.co/d/6K0luRg) and [HDMI](https://a.co/d/h5XoyN0) I went with DP. Better reviews.
Full discussion on Reddit ->I picked up a portable monitor today for $40. (Asus zenscreen MB16acv). I was so excited to get it that I didn’t think to make sure I could actually use it on a PC and not just a laptop. So… How can I get it to run off of a dedicated GPU from either display port or HDMI to the single USB c port on the monitor? My CPU (r7 3800x) doesn’t have a APU, so not sure if I can use the usb port on the mobo.
Full discussion on Reddit ->yeaaa that is a possibility. its an ASUS ZenScreen MB16ACV, copy pasted so you have the model number
Full discussion on Reddit ->edit: I meant when connected to my windows 10 pc there is unbelievable latency, compared to none on my macbook
Full discussion on Reddit ->its most likely connected to the built in graphics of my i7. The reason i feel that its not connected to my main gpu (3070) is because the fact that if you plug a hdmi cable into your motherboards port it wont run the display off of the main gpu (3070 in my case). still this doesnt explain why the latency is so intense, it should be theoretically okay just off i7 12700k internal graphics
Full discussion on Reddit ->yea it makes sense that its a computer problem. The machine is a PC I built with a Z790 pro MSI motherboard, i7 12700k with a nvidia 3070 gpu. The i7 has built in graphics and the display is not running on the 3070 because nvidia control panel only recognizes my main display in its settings. I installed the drivers on Asus's website, however it didn't fix it. It doesn't seem like a refresh rate problem, it's a 60 hz Asus Zenscreen and video playback at 60 fps looks smooth, however mouse movements and dragging tabs has a lot of latency and looks like is refreshing super slow. When I connect the device, windows gives me a USB warning saying something along the lines of "make sure the DisplayPort device is supported by this computer", however i cant find more info that would help. That's pretty much the gist of the situation.
Full discussion on Reddit ->Also yes, there is power going over the cable, the display is both connected and powered through usb C
Full discussion on Reddit ->the only port it has is 1 usb c port for both power and display output. no other ports on the display. updating windows seemed to help it a fair amount
Full discussion on Reddit ->that didn't fix it, however maxing out my integrated graphics shared memory in my bios seemed to help it (def not fix it), but to be completely honest i have no idea if there is a downside to doing that
Full discussion on Reddit ->Hey! I have a portable Asus monitor as a secondary vertical display, when connected to my Mac there is no latency, but connected via usb c (its also powered by usb c) there is unbelievable latency. given, because its usb c its not connected to the graphics card but the motherboard itself. Any ideas or is that how it is?
Full discussion on Reddit ->I have an Asus Zenscreen, use it 8 hours a day/5 days a week, for the last 2.5 years. It is a solid piece of gear, and if it breaks I will replace with the same model.
