Yeah, I wouldn't expect much quality from the $150 cheap china brand portable monitors, but didn't realise that they would look so different. Was not sure if its a faulty unit or just that bad. I'm not actually looking for color accuracy though, just vibrant colors (even though they may not be color correct), 'cos I'm not doing any professional graphics or content creation work... only office apps and zoom meetings. The rest of the time I'll be using the system for gaming on the road, hence just need a display with higher refresh rates and vibrant colors that pop right out of the box. Anyways, luckily Amazon allows me to do a return and refund on this unit, so I'll be doing that. Will scope out other brands and models to find a better one for my requirements, if possible get to view the actual displays in person and compare the quality and colors before purchasing.
Full discussion on Reddit ->Brought the unit to some shops to compare with other portable monitors... yeah, it's like night and day when placed next to them. The other models looked way better without even needing any tuning or calibration. Oddly, even the cheaper models at default settings look better than it, so maybe I might have actually gotten a unit with a sub-par panel. Anyway, managed to do a return and refund on it. Lesson learnt to never blindly order monitors without actually viewing them in person.

Full discussion on Reddit ->Recently built a SFF gaming PC for travel, and ordered a 17.3" 1080p 144hz IPS portable monitor (Uperfect brand) from Amazon to pair with it... immediately noticed the colors were very different from the rest of my other displays. Seems a lot less vibrant. In my photo comparison example, on the left are my gaming laptop with 144hz IPS display, iPad Mini 4 and Samsung S23 Ultra, while on the right is the portable monitor. Notice that all the device displays on the left look more or less similiar in terms of color hue and intensity (they are all at default settings), while the portable monitor on the right looks noticeably different. This is after 2+ hours of tuning back and forth messing with all the monitor and calibration settings, the color still looks different from my other devices... still rather pale and washed out. I plan to use my laptop and the portable monitor side-by-side, so this difference in color and vibrancy is very noticeable and annoying. I know the china brand portable monitors can differ a lot in their quality... so I'm guessing either I got a dud unit or it's just a very low quality panel? Despite it being reviewed favourably and advertised as 100% sRGB and all. 🥴
