I have a similar setup with a Viewsonic 17" portable monitor. Without external power, it automatically sets the brightness lower to conserve phone battery. It also can pass through up to 65W if an external charger is plugged into the monitor. It is really handy to just need one cable.

I have a similar viewsonic 17" monitor that works the same. I can power the monitor off my phone at a lower brightness. This obviously will drain my s23u pretty quickly, but it is good for short tasks. I can then plug a higher wattage charger into a separate usb-c port on the monitor that has PD pass-through that will both power the screen and charge the phone. If your monitor doesn't have a second port I am not sure what you can do.

Well if what you want to do is gaming, and you want it to be portable, there is a couple options, but all of them are 1080p. I have this one, it’s fantastic for gaming and the speakers are nice to have for a movie when the hotel TV won’t change inputs. Been carrying it around on flights and 1000mile road trips for a couple years in a laptop backpack along with my PC. I think it’s pretty darned solidlily built. But heavy at 2.2lbs. the kickstand is stiff at whatever angle you set it at. the speakers are decently loud but not great quality (to be expected for tiny built ins).

I believe the shell is all aluminum

Check ViewSonic. They have some good portable monitors. I got the 17inch refurbished from their eBay store and it works great. I travel a decent amount and I also use it for work.
