From my experience, I went with a portable monitor over a tablet… primarily for the cost factor. I paid less for the monitor than what a potential tablet would have cost… and as you mention there’s more flexibility when it comes to having a monitor given I can use it to connect to a laptop for a secondary screen.
Full discussion on Reddit ->No built in battery… its the UPerfect Y Monitor. I can plug in my Galaxy Fold to the portable monitor and it powers on DeX… no additional cable.
Full discussion on Reddit ->You probably got something by now, but I recommend uperfect 15.6 portable monitor. I paid $190 and it’s $135 now. I got it before the steam deck, but it’s worked out perfectly. I have it plugged into a charger in one usb c port. And when I went to use it for the steam deck I’ll just plug in a second usb c cable and steam deck outputs video and is getting charged through the monitors power delivery. I picked this one because it is vesa mountable so have it on a monitor arm. If I need to take it with me to travel It’s just 4 screws to take out.
Full discussion on Reddit ->Well I bought this in 2022: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TWGBG3P/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TWGBG3P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1) It's not terrible to be honest.
Full discussion on Reddit ->Cocopar 16" USB c portable monitor on Amazon. Got mine renewed for $60. Comes with a magnetic case, works great for mini HDMI, or USB c, and has a VESA mount on the back for more permanent arrangements.
Full discussion on Reddit ->https://www.uperfectmonitor.com/collections/portable-monitors/products/uperfect-15-6-vesa-portable-monitor entry level uperfect, and it's on sale right now I've got 5 or 6 uperfects, and while they're not amazing, they've all been pretty reliable screens for me
Full discussion on Reddit ->A lot of AMD's reference cards have a USB-C port that support DP Alt, I can do it on my RX 6800 at least with my 15 inch Uperfect monitor(just doesn't get enough juice to power the built in speakers). I think DP in is just a real niche feature, most manufactures don't anticipate yours and others use case. It would be greatly appreciated.
