i’m a vegetarian too, and body fortress has been the best protein powder for me so far. Aside from the fact that it’s processed on the same machines as some non vegetarian stuff, that doesn’t mean it’s in the powder too. There is some artificial flavoring but it’s pretty good.
Yes, but look up different brands specifically for lead content. We learned recently that a lot of powders have high amounts of lead.
I use Body Fortress which has been found to have no detectable lead content, and is cheap and widely available. Doesn't taste too bad either.
Don't be afraid of carbs for weight gain. Eat more pasta.

I think a lot of people use whey. And that's half the issue.
I accidentally bought Body Fortress "whey" protein, and it was... less than stellar.
The vanilla base I use is Body Fortress ISOLATE protein. Which has smaller particles and creates a delicious and smooth end-product.
The "vanilla ice cream" recipe I use is 1 scoop IPP, 1 tbsp cheesecake pudding, and fill with 1% milk. It tastes like vanilla soft serve. It takes mix-ins like chopped chocolate chips very well and is the base i use for S'mores ice cream.
Those 3 things are the base of all my recipes, substitute the pudding for a different flavor every now and then.
