I’m a macro Mike fan but I much prefer their almond protein over their peanut protein flavours. I find all the peanut protein flavours just taste like peanuts but the almond actually tastes like the marketed flavours. They’ve just released a pea protein which I’ve purchased but yet to try.
Totally agree. Love it in overnight oats too, or a smoothie. I add a bit of fun stuff like Greek yoghurt or fruit, sometimes psyllium for a pudding texture, crunchy buckwheat. At the moment I’m using the Macro Mike cereal flavours. I bought all 3. Pretty expensive but worthwhile if it helps. Also have amino z which has a good flavour range, and I use sometimes, but much less exciting. Do you have any good recommendations??
I've tried a lot of non-dairy protein powders available in Australia. The main thing to look out for is making sure the amino acid profile is complete, but most you find will use a blend to make sure of that. In terms of taste, I quite like the new Vital Strength Plant Vegan Protein (specifically chocolate), its often $30/kg or below at chemist warehouse. Is a bit higher in the kj at around 700kj per serve 28.4g of protein. Bit of a coco pops flavour if I would have to say. It also has Omega-3s, I haven't looked into how bio-available the actual source they use is but something to consider. I have also tried Bondi Plant Protein and Amazonia Raw, which can also be found on sale often at Chemist Warehouse, both their chocolate flavours taste alright too. BSC Clean Plant protein is often found cheap and has good amino acid profile but I think it tastes the worse out of the 4 aforementioned ones. The chocolate one I would say is palatable, but I tried the vanilla one and would struggle to keep it down sometimes. Would not reccomend With all pea/rice proteins, atleast the ones I have tried, there is some minor sandy/gritty aftertaste or mouth texture. Macro Mike have an almond and faba bean blend protein which I have also tried which does not have this issue and they taste the best, but at over $90/kg I really can't justify spending that. Worth a shot though
Yeah you gotta get the almond macromike, it’s a different thing entirely tbh
Seconded! Their more almond based ones are so nice, best texture and no weird vegetable flavours. Weirdly the vanilla is nice blended with some OJ and ice like a creamsicle type thing. Also good for iced coffees
I can't do the dairy proteins, so I got some of the Macro Mike sample packs... I think the peanut based ones are great! The almond ones have a bitterness in not keen on.
My favourite are the almond ones. If I am in the mood for peanut butter I go for their powdered peanut butters over the protein powder. The salted caramel one is good.
Macro Mike is the best one by far.
Something a lot of people don't consider.... collagen powder. I add it to a lot of things but I'll blend it with Almond milk and frozen Strawberries and it's really good. You can get 17-24g of protein from it depending on the serving. Right now I'm also trying a vegan Almond protein from Macro Mike's, its an Australian brand but they do ship to the US. I like it so far
Im a vanilla fan too and i struggled to find a good one that was silky smooth and delicious until Macro Mike. Stick to the Almond Protein- Vanilla Buttercream. You'll be hooked. They have a pretty decent loyalty/rewards program too
