I agree. I’m intolerant to whey protein products, but not lactose intolerant. Premade protein shakes use milk protein concentrate/isolate which is an 80% casein/20% whey combination and I do just fine with that. Casein protein is fine too. Dairy is fine. But pure whey protein products (bars, powder) will upset my stomach for 2 days. Casein protein powder is more expensive though. And the protein powder I used to use that used milk protein isolate seems like it got discontinued or is being reformulated as I can’t purchase it anymore (Vital Proteins Performance powder). So I’ve switched to Muscle Milk Zero because they’re the only other brand I could find that uses milk protein and not just whey protein at a reasonable price. Working well. I also use premade protein shakes. From what I read about it, it’s due to the fast digesting nature of whey protein, the large amount hitting my guts at once messed me up. I even tried blunting it with food, psyllium husk, no go. Casein is slow digesting, and mixed with whey, you get a little fast digesting protein in a small amount and the rest being slow digesting. Another option is to buy a product of casein powder and a whey protein powder and mix them in that 80/20 ratio yourself.
Avoid: * Naked Nutrition * Huel Once per week: * Garden of Life * Momentous 100% Plant Protein Occasionally: * MuscleMeds * Optimum Nutrition Serious Mass * Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Protein Shake * Jocko Fuel * Vega * Quest * Orgain * Equip Foods * Plant Fusion * Ensure * Muscle Milk * KOS Better Choices for Daily Consumption: * Owyn * Transparent Labs * Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey * BSN * Momentus Whey Protein Isolate * Dymatize * Muscle Tech Only the last one - Muscle Tech - is listed as no limit on safe consumption.
negative. Optimum Gold Standard Protein Shake was orange, at above 150% of consumer report's level of concern for lead, and recommend to limit to 4 2/3 servings per week. The Optimum Gold Standard 100% Whey is what was green across the board and recommend 1 3/4 servings per day.
well I guess we can chalk up the disagreement to lack of specificity. "Optimum Gold Protein Powder" isn't listed in the consumer reports article (unless I am blind, which may in fact be the case). There are two Optimum products listed: * Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Protein Shake - not recommended * Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey - recommended If I've missed one or miscategorized one I'll edit my post right away, but I believe I've got them listed correctly.
Careful - Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Protein Shake is listed under "occasionally" and their Gold Standard 100% Whey is listed under "better choices for daily consumption". Kudos on calling out Muscle Tech as having no limit on safe consumption. I missed that and grouped it with the rest of the ones in the same category.
Agree with lots of others here. Nothing wrong with carbs. The zero added sugar is key to me. You are getting some good carbs without the sugar. I would drink this. The fiber is a plus. I do Muscle Milk protein powder which also has a good amount of fiber and some added vitamins.
Oh, thought you meant the regular core power ones. Muscle milk powders are very tasty... syntha-6 is also delicious... currently I'm using mutant surge. All powders and pricy up front but per serving pretty cheap... and not just whey. Technically better for you than the core power too... you're paying for the convenience imo
Muscle milk and isopure,
Lol. You should see my stash... I do love premier protein, but I also have a couple other brands. Muscle milk, and optimum nutrition Gold standard. Optimum has 24 g of protein but it's also 130 calories. The three grams of fat helps hold off your hunger.
I've used Optimum Nutrition for years, but I've recently converted to the Kirkland brand protein powder. Muscle Milk tastes like hot garbage. A lot of the My Proteins are tough to choke down too.
Celiac here and have no issues with muscle milk
I do apologize as I was unaware that it contained corn
I haven’t done anything very different than my usual routine of Morning yogurt, mid morning protein fruit smoothie, lunch, afternoon smoothie or protein bar, and dinner. It takes longer to drink the smoothies tho. I like Muscle milk protein powder. It’s easier to drink. I also like their prepared drinks. I just discovered IQBars. Plant protein and low sugar. They aren’t cheap, but they taste good and really satisfy my need for fuel right now. I buy a case at a time because it’s cheaper. I don’t worry about the electrolytes but drink a lot of water and workout 3 times a week.
Muscle milk worked for me and was always easy to find. It’s mostly lactose free which is what I needed.
