Do you have issues digesting other dairy products/milk/cheese? If you have issues with other dairy you will have issues with whey (it's dairy). Try just plain, unflavored, unsweetened whey protein. A brand called Naked Whey makes both a regular whey and a whey protein isolate that is literally just unflavored, unsweetened whey. There are probably other brands. You'll need to read the ingredient list - it should just be whey and nothing else except maybe an emulsifier (like sunflower lecithin). If you try this and still have digestive issues, you likely just can't tolerate whey protein or need to build up to being able to tolerate it (depending on how bad the issues are - if you're just a little bloated or gassy after having a shake that might go away or ease after a week or two of having them regularly). You'll want to mix the plain protein powder with your own flavorings and sweetener. IMO it does not taste good on its own. Be weary that a lot of people have digestive issues with artificial sweeteners, which are commonly found in protein drinks, protein drink recipes, and flavored protein powders. Stick with adding ingredients to flavor/sweeten that you know you tolerate well.
Isolate was recommended to me by my trainer, I do the Naked Whey Isolate. I mix it into my morning coffee with one of those frothing wands. I believe it's 30g of protein for 120 calories.
I get naked whey iso unflavored. Doesn't have a super artificial super sweet flavor and mixes well with milk and frozen berries. Doesn't get super clumpy like a lot of cheaper brands do and has never given me a stomach ache. Seems to digest really well. The ingredients are also super clean.
Whey protein isolate is great, had a noticeable improvement in muscle tone taking it (naked brand) For magnesium and electrolyte needs, I take magnesium and potassium asparates (AOR brand) plus tons of salt in my food. The asparate form does not have to be metabolized, and doesn’t make me drowsy like other kinds do. Currently trying out creatine. Most of my other supplements are targeted for MCAS and slow COMT issues, but I also keep a bag of candied ginger around for when I need to get my gut moving again. It’s a gentler way to induce peristalsis.
Naked whey iso. I love it because it has - no taste and I can dress it up with cacao powder, cinnamon, real vanilla… or use it in hearty recipes. It has no stevia or sugar alcohols. One powder, many uses.
NAKED is very good. Simply go to the protein powder on Amazon and you'll see their heavy metal testing results showing <0.15mcg per 30g serving.
They showed their test results for their pea protein which also had the same outcome of <0.15mcg of lead per serving. If you're not vegan, definitely go with whey protein.
