I've gone through all the protein shakes. They don't really cut it in terms of 3rd party testing, heavy metals etc. Vegan protein powders have similar weaknesses, aren't great for digestion for many people, and deliver less protein per calorie. I try to make sure I have proteins in lunch and dinner specifically. That tends to be chicken dominant with fish a close second, but also includes beef and lamb less often. I keep jerky around for some snack top ups but I use that less and less. Protein rich soups, dinner leftovers, tuna, etc make up a lot of my lunches. After I work out or on days I don't lift then after I run (so every day), I have a whey isolate and creatine shake in unsweetened almond milk. I use Transparent Labs whey isolate and Thorne creatine. Before bed I have a second almond milk shake with Naked casein. That's 5 to 7 days a week depending on how much protein I've had that day. I typically land around 150 grams of protein a day give or take. I never go below 145 but I sometimes end up as high as 165. I weigh about 145 lbs but fluctuate up a couple here and there and I'm actively working on gaining lean mass. I load up on fruit out of preference so my meal deliberateness and shake practice has landed me in a really healthy spot and, this may sound out there for people in the weight loss phase, but I need more calories not less. I'm titrating down to stimulate more calorie intake alongside regular excersize doing that on its own.

Unflavored Transparent Labs grass-fed whey isolate and almond milk. For occasional overnight protein, unflavored Naked casein. More like a pudding than a shake. A little Greek yogurt, honey, and almond milk.

Agree. The naked chocolate protein is the first protein shake I’ve been able to drink without gastric issues from the fake junk.

I use “naked casein”. I know they only tested the vegan supplement but the fact that it was so high and lead makes me nervous about using their casein supplement now

Yeah. I just opened a new tub this week so not really interested in dumping $50 in the trash. But I’m going to consider switching to a different brand when I’m done with this one

Are you talking about Ora? I have had success with naked nutrition cookies and cream, flav city chocolate PB. The cookies and cream was discontinued apparently but I have vanilla in my freezer which I’ll be trying tonight. So far satisfied with baked nutrition- my 5 year old has stolen mine and doesn’t know any different. The ora, she would not eat 😂

Many discussions about finding the best protein powder miss a key point: "protein powder" is not a single ingredient but a complex mix of many things. The flavorings, sweeteners, gums and stabilizers vary considerably. For example, some people here use protein powder AND pudding mix but this is often unnecessary as some protein powders have many of the same ingredients as pudding mix. Because these blends vary so much between brands, you cannot easily substitute one for another in a recipe and expect the same outcome. Professional ice cream makers, making 'real ice cream' often use non-fat milk powder to make their products denser and creamier. Non-fat milk powder is simply another type of protein powder. Even "real ice cream" can benefit from adding them! Each protein powder type has different effects on your final ice cream. Whey protein mixes into a thin liquid and makes your result creamier. People who use it often talk about a soft-serve consistency. Casein, however, creates a much thicker, denser mixture. Personally, I have found a mix of whey, casein, and non-fat milk powder to be effective. People aren't adding protein powder \*just\* to improve their macros. Adding any type of protein powder increases the 'solids' in your mix which helps out the final texture. This is most helpful to lower fat recipes but can help even 'regular' ice cream. This leaves two main approaches 1. **The Simple Method:** Find one pre-mixed protein powder that you like and use it exclusively. If you can find a product that tastes good and gives you a nice texture, this is a great solution. However, it's fairly narrow with a single flavor, sweetness, and texture. Love it or leave it. 2. **The Custom Method:** Purchase the raw, unflavored ingredients, such as whey, casein, and non-fat milk powder, and create your own blend. This approach gives you complete control over texture, avoiding the off-flavors or unwanted textures sometimes found in commercial mixes. Once I found a ratio that I liked, I just made my own blend so it's very easy to just dump a cup of it into my blender. Of course, you have to add your own flavors and stabilizers (which is it's own adventure) While the custom method is more involved, you get complete control over the flavor and sweetness and can actually share recipes with others. I realize many won't want to do this. My point was just to point out WHY finding the right "protein powder" is so hard! It is a very confusing term and your results will vary quite a bit between different brands. If you're interested, here in the US, I use the "Naked" brand of whey and casein powders. If you try one of these and don't like the flavor, that just means you don't like whey or casein protein, so don't use them! That may also explain why you don't like a specific protein powder as it's likely using one of these 'base proteins' that you don't care for. I don't have much experience with vegan protein powders so I hope others chime-in in the comments about which ones work best for them.

I buy naked protien powders because a ton of brands put artificial/non sugar sweeteners in theirs and I cannot stand the taste of those. Naked doesn't. Monk fruit is gross to me and it seems to be in a lot of protein powders. Naked has a "plain" that tastes faintly of dairy, no sweeteners. They have a brown rice one that is pretty good too for a non animal derived option. Makes it easy to mix with whatever.
