I just finished my daily serving of fat free greek yogurt mixed with Optimum Nutrition Chocolate Whey Isolate and a smattering of blueberries. Just as delicious as ever! I have a friend who’s absolutely revolted by anything with sugar alternatives in it, but I personally don’t mind them at all. Maybe you’re just in the former camp?
Yes I have IBS and by far this is the best Brand 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
honestly protein shakes at that calorie level are tough because you're basically asking for all protein and nothing else. your best bets are going to be isolate-based powders like Isopure Zero Carb or Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Isolate, which can get you 25g protein in like 110-120 calories. the trade-off is they're usually pretty thin and less creamy than concentrate-based shakes, but they mix fine with water or unsweetened almond milk. if you're doing these shakes for workout recovery or just general protein intake, remember you'll probably want to add some electrolytes back in since you're cutting everything else out. i use these drops called Salties that i just add to my shakes, keeps me from feeling depleted when i'm being strict with calories. beyond that, if you're really struggling to find something that hits those macros, you could also look at Premier Protein shakes which are pre-made and usually around 30g protein for 160 calories, then just accept it's slightly over your target. honestly the isolate powder route is gonna be your cleanest option though.
Isopure or ON Gold Standard Isolate (gold packaging) or ON Platinum Hydro Whey (except for Isopure, both of the ON products aren’t available officially in India, but if you can get this from abroad or from trusted sources in India, some stores do sell imported supplements, then they’re absolutely worth the cost) I have used the Hydro whey, ISO 100, Isopure, and all of them are just great. Iso sensation is also a very good isolate, the protein ratio is crazy good (above 90%)
Yeah its not a bad product as I said it's decent and if your stomach can handle it then for sure go for it! However whey concentrate can definitely cause bloating and gas if you’re even mildly lactose-sensitive mainly because whey concentrate contains more lactose than whey isolate. Lactose is the natural sugar in milk - which is where most of the carb content comes from in that Revolution bag. If your body doesnt break it down well then it can ferment in the gut and cause gas and bloating, or stomach pressure, cramps, loose stool etc. But to your point regarding glucose for better recovery, yes, carbs can definitely help fuel training, but the amount in High Whey is quite low and probably too low to noticeably make you “work out harder” especially during a normal lifting session. The bag itself also says to take it between meals or after an intense training session, not intra-workout. Drinking it mid-workout could actually make you feel worse from the heaviness and might cause nausea, especially if you’re training hard. Even though this bag has lactase, it may still bloat you because it contains whey concentrate plus more “extra” ingredients. Lactase helps break down lactose, but it doesnt automatically cancel out bloating from gums and sweeteners or milk proteins. Whey isolate powder is usually much easier on the stomach because its more filtered and higher in protein and lower in lactose/fat compared to concentrate. Costsco also sells an isolate-only protein called Gold Standard Isolate by Optimum Nutrition, which has no whey concentrate in it so it avoids the lactose load. Which is - rightfully - a little pricier than this deal unfortunately, but worth the cost imo. My other suggestion would be Diesel Isolate protein which is one of the best on the market in terms of clean high quality protein from hormone-free grass fed cows thats easier on the stomach and less fillers and more protein per serving.
That’s my go to protein powder. I can only tolerate whey protein isolate. I never knew there was a difference between the two. Plant based destroy my stomach.
