negative. Optimum Gold Standard Protein Shake was orange, at above 150% of consumer report's level of concern for lead, and recommend to limit to 4 2/3 servings per week. The Optimum Gold Standard 100% Whey is what was green across the board and recommend 1 3/4 servings per day.
well I guess we can chalk up the disagreement to lack of specificity. "Optimum Gold Protein Powder" isn't listed in the consumer reports article (unless I am blind, which may in fact be the case). There are two Optimum products listed: * Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Protein Shake - not recommended * Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey - recommended If I've missed one or miscategorized one I'll edit my post right away, but I believe I've got them listed correctly.
Careful - Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Protein Shake is listed under "occasionally" and their Gold Standard 100% Whey is listed under "better choices for daily consumption". Kudos on calling out Muscle Tech as having no limit on safe consumption. I missed that and grouped it with the rest of the ones in the same category.
Here’s the consumer reports study on which brands/lines actually have heavy metals: https://www.consumerreports.org/lead/protein-powders-and-shakes-contain-high-levels-of-lead-a4206364640/ In my experience optimum nutrition gold standard whey (double rich chocolate) has been good. No dangerous level of heavy metals per the report, not super high in sugar. If you take it with water it tastes like ass, but with milk (I use whole) it’s surprisingly pretty good. There’s a number of brands that didn’t appear to have the heavy metal problem, so if that’s a worry, consult the report (note, optimum nutrition’s serious mass protein *did* have more heavy metals, so check by product, not just by brand)
Actually Optimum Nutrition is NOT clean on the list. The Optimum Mass Powder was unusually high in arsenic, and not recommended to take daily. The Whey protein powder seemed to be better though. So hopefully that's what you've used
I take a half serving of optimum nutrition serious mass every day. I’m wondering if I’m still on the safe side? (One scoop)
Same, been doing it for a decade
*Some* of it is. Some of it isn't. Their "Serious Mass" brand tested high for *arsenic,* and they recommended keeping it to a couple times a week, instead of every day. The "Gold Standard" one came in at around half the point where they'd be concerned about one serving a day. But this is a problem with the supplement industry in general. Big Pharma has its problems, and Big Food has its problems, but Big Supplement and Big Vitamin can be just as bad, only they're far less regulated.
If you want mad calories the. Serious Mass by optimum nutrition. Make it with milk and you get even more calories!
Crazy thing for me is when I saw and read that article some days ago I was on my last couple of servings of serious mass for 18 days straight this month. I said I'll stop using it for the rest of the month. I still have a full 12 pound bag left.
Our Costco almost always has the Kirkland, ON, and Orgain plant powders for a great deal. Look for the 'Aussie Bites' in the snack section, the ingredients / protein is pretty crazy for the small bites.
Hi. I have tried GNC and ON and didn't like both. How is MB in terms of quality ? Heard the taste is good.
