Cottage cheese and Greek yogurt are the easiest items to incorporate into your diet to up your protein. You can add protein powder to the yogurt, that tends to thicken it up, if you blend the cottage cheese and add some into it, it thins it out without adding other flavors. I'm a texture eater so it's really important to me. Most things you use milk for, you can sub for cottage cheese or get a protein milk. I like Fairlife because it's less sugar as well as more protein. They also have a protein shake called Core Power that is actually really good. Not overly sweet nor is it chalky. However, it's very possible to get your protein within your calories and not use any protein items like shakes/bars/etc. Beans/legumes can help, and add the fiber you need. I've gone off the protein shake/bars daily track. However, if I really need a protein boost, I like the Spacemilk protein powder (vanilla). I put 1 serving of that, 1 serving of greek yogurt, about 60-180ml of almond milk, blueberries (or berry of your choice), and blend that into a smoothie. Super yummy, you can also sub for protein milk but it adds more calories than almond milk. If you need more sweetness, add in 1-2 tbsp of blue agave syrup. You can also use cottage cheese here but I highly recommend you blend that first and then add the ingredients and blend together. That way, it's more of a milk consistency. Again, texture is important to me. I use a nutribullet.
I tried to swap to Spacemilk after the whole debacle, and oh my god. Awful. Worst one I've tasted so far and it's not even close. It was the unflavored since I'm allergic to monkfruit (can we stop putting that shit in everything?!) but I used one scoop in a sizeable smoothie and it ruined the whole thing. I'm happy to pick up Orgain again.
Spacemilk plain. Has its own unique taste that I get used to and can be overcome with strong additives like cocoa or berries. No sodium like pea protein, not chalky at all. Quite expensive but it’s for my health and I don’t balk at a $12 on beer when I want some.
It does foam more than normal protein powders but I’m only filling my Vitamix jar halfway or less. I have only done the plain so I don’t know if it’s going to have the same flavor that you don’t like or if the additives they put in their accentuate it. I do know that I cannot describe the flavor in any way.

Tofu, roasted or steamed edamame, vegan protein yogurts (I like the Iclandia oatmilk Skyr). Soy milk or pea milk (ripple is great). I sprinkle hemp hearts, and nutritional yeast on a lot of things. Beans and lentils are great, but they are mostly carbs - not necessarily high protein. For breakfast I eat steel cut oats (I make a big batch in my rice cooker and then reheat throughout the week) + frozen blueberries, and soy milk mixed with vegan protein powder (I like spacemilk the best). Into with pumpkin seeds and ground flax. For lunch I usually have a tofu/veg/rice bowl - all things that can be prepped in big batches and reheated throughout the week. For dinner I have something family friendly (I have kids) like a veggie burger - I look for the high protein options, seitan, or lentil soup, etc. I front load my day with protein so I don't need a ton at dinner. It takes planning and adjusting but with practice I get 100+ grams of plant based protein per day.
By far the best vegan option on the market
Personally I love yeast protein powder, only kind that hasn’t made me bloated, aside from maybe hemp protein powder. Not many companies selling it though so it’s a bit pricey. I buy Space Milk yeast protein…there’s usually a sale, especially for first time shoppers. It mixes super well in water, plant milk, oatmeal, smoothies, etc.
I wouldn’t worry too much about minuscule amounts of lead (in nearly everything), but plenty of companies will provide a batch specific COA w tested levels. Otherwise you can go for types of protein that would much more likely be lead-free, regardless, like yeast protein. Space Milk is lead free yeast protein and they’re happy to provide the COAs. Also incredible PDCAAS AND DIAAS scores. Expensive af but almost always 30-35% discount sales. Fkn delicious, doesn’t bloat me like many other types.
SpaceMilk is the easiest powder on my stomach and has great amino acid profile and bioavailability. I believe they’re doing a 35% off 1st order sale, wish I stocked up bc it’s too pricey for me without the discount.

Space Milk yeast protein for amazing PDCAAS and DIAAS and doesn’t get me bloated. I love choc and vanilla ones but unflavored is nice and single ingredient of just yeast. Only buy when on sale (which is often)
