I recently went down a complete rabbit hole trying to choose a plant protein. What started as “which one should I buy?” turned into comparing ingredients, reading labels, watching reviews… and honestly, overthinking the hell out of it. So I made this tier list to simplify things. **What I based it on:** * Ingredient quality (sweeteners, additives, etc.) * Price vs value * Taste (because you actually have to drink it) **Tiers:** **S:** Cosmix, The Whole Truth, Origin, OWN **A:** YogaBar (only flavoured), Open Secret **B:** Naturaltein, Nutrabox, Sparkfusion, OZiva **C:** Nakpro (pea and brown rice), Fast&Up, MuscleBlaze **Quick breakdown:** * S tier → cleanest, but expensive (except OWN) * A tier → best balance (what most people should buy) * B tier → decent, but slight compromises * C tier → budget / not very clean One thing I realised: You’re not just buying protein, you’re buying branding and positioning. If anyone’s curious, I wrote a more detailed breakdown here: [Ranking Best Plant Protein Powders in India: Only List You Need](https://breathbadminton.com/best-plant-protein-powder-india-ranking/) Also happy to hear what you guys are using. I’m still experimenting myself.
You're right, label reading isn’t everything. Lab testing matters for things like actual protein %, contaminants, etc. But most brands in India don’t publish consistent batch-wise reports. My ranking was based on ingredients + formulation + price, not full lab verification. Ideally you want both: clean ingredients + third-party testing. We rarely get both perfectly here yet. Except maybe OWN & TWT.
I've kept Nutrabox in B tier mainly because of the flavouring system and additives. Good product, but not minimalist enough for S tier in my criteria. Nutrabay is similar. Their unflavoured isolates are quite clean, but most flavoured options are more like “wellness blends” with added extras. So yeah, both are solid, just not simple enough for S tier.
I tried YogaBar’s unflavoured plant protein and honestly almost puked. Before that, I was using unflavoured whey from The Whole Truth, and it was almost like drinking plain water, very easy to consume. Plant protein is very different though. The taste and texture are much harsher, so I’m not sure unflavoured plant protein is worth buying at all.
That’s fair tbh, Naturaltein is definitely one of the better ones in the B tier. I actually liked their ingredient profile too, especially compared to budget options. And yeah, the higher protein % does make it look better value on paper. The only reason I didn’t put it in S tier was because I was prioritizing minimal / no-additive formulations. Naturaltein still uses flavouring systems and a few extras, whereas S tier for me was more about “as close to nothing added as possible”. But honestly, if you’re enjoying the taste and consistency, that matters way more for long-term use. It’s easily one of the better practical choices.
yogabar? especially their plant protein? they are quite cheap..
i guess i could use 1 million dollars then. yeah the taste sucks, i make it a shake with milk, banana, and yogabar chocolate oats. not that bad then considering the price
Using yogabar coffee plant protein i bought for 630/kg. Tastes pretty good, very light on stomach. Doesn't really have to be expensive
They always have offers in jiomart. Rice and pea protein have all essential amino acids. Whey might give you 10% better results. I'm definitely not spending an extra 400% for it😬. I understand using whey and I've used expensive ones too but I don't think it always have to be expensive. Some cheap ones are almost equally good and much better bang for the buck
Where's yogabar? Their plant protein has good results, 2 months se using it and tastes good too
yogabar plant protein is actually good. they use monk fruit which is very rare for budget brands (usually only expensive ones like twt use it). since it is a pea + rice protein blend the texture will strictly be chalky or grainy compared to whey. it won't be smooth like a milkshake but if u can handle the earthy taste the ingredient is clean for the money.
if u are seeing strength gains while cutting its the proof it is working. nutrabox is heavy focused on labdoor and trustified certifications. looking at labels from their website thier plant protein is actually very clean it uses a pea and rice blend (which creates a complete amino profile) and is sweetened with stevia and thaumatin instead of artificial sucralose. safe to keep using it.
for \~2250 u get 27g protein which is higher than most budget concentrates. since it is a blend of concentrate + isolate and has added digestive enzymes it digests way better than standard raw whey. definitely a good pick

nakpro pea is good if u are vegan or lactose intolerant. for \~1100 rs u get 25.5g protein per scoop which is decent value. but pea protein tastes earthy and has a chalky texture it won't be smooth like whey. if u can handle the taste the lab report on their website shows it passed with 72.9% protein so the quality is legit

i ordered their unflavoured plant protein , even if somebody paid me a million dollars i don't have the courage to drink one single glass of it, its so bad ( i am not kidding about the million dollars)
I recently tried pea protein by yogabar. Mann
Don't go for Nutrabox, they are very inconsistent in production. Some batches are fine, some batches used to give me bloating, some batches were too sweet. I'm using yogabar protein atm and atleast they are consistent and brand is trustified. I will be switching to naturaltein yes ( Yeast protein) as I've heard good things about it.
