Based on 1 year's data from Mar 23, 2026 How it works
I’m 6’5 230lbs I ran a 3:45 with the Prime X3 We are heavy and we put a lot of force in the shoes The Prime X with the double plate will give you that extra bounce. Now they are a bit heavier but it’s a good trade off Prime X2 are more stable but I loved them both It depends of how much you want to spend NB sc elite v4 Brooks Hyperion Elite 5 Alphafly 3 Are really good options
Not sure if my experience of them is relevant as i'm a lot shorter than you, but i love the X3's. I love the bounce and the cushioning. My longest run in them has been 30k and i was surprised that how great my legs felt, and i could probably have ran a marathon distance in them easily. I can see why they would be great for a heavier runner actually - there's so much stack on them!
Prime X 3 because the energy return is so high that your legs dont feel tired in the slightest the next day
Did a 23km run with the PX3 and they are definitely an improvement over the PX2 The only thing would be that having 1 less pair of lace holes kinda gives the feeling of having heel slipage when going slow
Prime X 3 for those long runs with fast segments
What type of runs do you use it for? Technical drills? I really want to like them but I find the low stack hard on the legs, so maybe I'm missing something? I also run in the PX3S, AP4, TS11, B13 and Evo SL (+ATR), and all of these (except the B13) shine in their own area. Where I live (in Europe), the shoe is fairly cheap and easy to get, but even so, I've never seen another runner with them. Maybe because they are inaccessible in certain areas, they are more coveted?
I just got the x3 strung prime because I just couldn’t stand addidas tongues!
Prime x shoes really love a high pace with strong push off. The carbon plates only work as springs if you compress them. So if you are able to put down some good amount of power in the shoes then go. Otherwise pick a different, non-plated shoe if you want speed and bounce.
Yes, I have worn the Prime X3 for half marathons, marathons, and two 100 milers. They are great. You’re much faster than me, though. I have also worn the Adios Pro 4 for halfs and full marathons. They would probably suit you better for your needs.
I am the same height and weight as you and have about the same race times. The Superblast is very durable but does not feel like a fast shoe. It's OK but I wouldn't choose it for anything other than slow/mid pace runs. The Evo SL fun to run. I do find they causes calf soreness after a consecutive runs. That might just be me. Not as durable as most Adidas, although that is a high bar. Hoka Mach X/X2. Great to run in. Terrible durability. I ran less than 150 miles in them and the outsole started falling off. Prime X Stung 3: fast, fun and durable. They got poor reviews but I love them. Maybe they only works for heavier runners. Boston 13: fast, very durable. These felt a bit boring when I first put them on but I love them now. Also relatively cheap and look pretty good it you have to wear them on a flight or something.
After five months on the sideline due to health issues, I’m finally lacing up again. I’ve gained 40 lbs during the break, so I’m coming back heavier and slower than before. My Stats: 5’7” | 225 lbs | HM: 2:45 | 5K: 32:39 | 10K: 54:00 I sit firmly on the relaxed end of the pace spectrum, and I put the Superblast 3 through its first test on a quick 5K at my local park. Sizing True to size in Men’s 9.5. Upper — 3/5 My one gripe. The tongue still doesn’t feel quite right, and the laces loosened up mid-run — enough that I had to stop and retie. That said, breathability felt solid, the toe box is generously roomy, and it didn’t have that snug, locked-down feel of the Megablast. I’m not overly fussy about uppers, so it’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s worth flagging. Midsole — 5/5 This is where the shoe earns its keep. The foam compresses beautifully underfoot — especially noticeable on the uphills — and snaps back almost instantly. You can actually feel it returning energy with each stride, giving you a subtle but real lift off the ground. At easy warm-up paces it felt planted and stable, with no ankle wobble whatsoever — noticeably more composed than the Evo SL at slower speeds. When I opened up to 5K effort, the geometry didn’t fight me. The shoe wanted to move fast. Outsole — 4/5 Performed well given the conditions — a short, hilly loop on a wet day. Confident through corners, no slipping, nothing concerning. A longer test will tell more, but the early signs are good. How It Compares Adidas Evo SL — A shoe I’ve loved and run two pairs through. The SB3 matches it on midsole feel and holds its own at tempo pace. The SL gets a little squirrelly at slower paces; the SB3 is more forgiving there. ∙ Superblast 2 — Wanted to love it. Couldn’t. Slappy, stiff, and clunky. Picking up the pace helped slightly, but it never clicked for me. ∙ Adidas Prime X3 Strung — My race day shoe and personal favorite series. Lightstrike 2.0 foam is genuinely hard to beat. The PMX3’s rocker and more aggressive midsole geometry put it in a different category. If budget allows, get the PMX. ∙ Hoka Cielo X1 OG — The bounciest shoe I’ve ever run in. The SB3 brought that memory back, but it’s not quite at that level. Few shoes are. ∙ Adidas Megablast — I enjoy the Megablast despite its snug toe box. The SB3 is softer and bouncier, though the Megablast’s firmer ride does help with snapping into a quicker turnover. Verdict The Superblast 3 is a genuinely great shoe, and I have zero regrets. It’s stable enough for easy days, responsive enough for tempo work, and comfortable right out of the box. My goal is 250–300 miles in this pair by end of spring. On my radar next: Adidas Hyperboost Edge and Rad UFO.
Two shoes I enjoyed running the most in my life 1. Hoka cielo x1 OG. I am hearing v3 is better than OG. Pricy but good if you want to race in those. 2. Prime x strung 3 - just a beautiful shoe to keep going. Race, Easy, tempo, hill it can do it all for me.
This, but I’d take v1 or v3. V2 is the most stable option, but if you’re neutral with no stability concerns v1 and v3 have more energy return imo. I’ve run 35mi before in v1 and they felt great throughout, never bottomed out.
