r/AskRunningShoeGeeksTempo/speed shoe that’s also good for track workouts

I love the SL, but I wouldn’t recommend the evo sl for track workouts. I’m a lighter runner, and even for me there’s not enough stability, especially on the turns when doing fast intervals. I use the Takumi Sen 10 and ap3 for track/tempo. If I was to do one shoe I’d probably use the ap4, or maybe the new Takumi Sen 11.

Dont worry about those time claims. If they feel great for you, buy them. I have several pairs and use the from everything from 5k races to half marathon long runs. my marathon time is currently estimated above 4 hours with a 2 hour half marathon record. The only shoes I will choose over the AP4 are the Pro Ovo 1 and 2 which are supposed to be for even faster runners. For me, I want the most premium foam I can buy if I am going to be running 2 to 4 hours. I started buying adidas shoes with the Takumi Sen 10 (supposedly for 5k) and Adios Pro 3. I was unstable on the Takumi Sen 10 at about 210lb mass but the AP3 was great and I used them for everything from 1 mile jogs to 5k runs. I have dialed back my carbon plate adoption by picking up some Evo SL and Nike Vomero premium pairs for training, but I will still run 5Ks on my AP4

I am similar height/weight as you, currently training for a half marathon in Sept. Short goal is trying to break 20 in the 5k this Saturday. I've tried a bunch of different shoes since I got back into running last Sept. And settled on a evo sl (daily and tempo) and superblast 2 (long and recovery runs). I use the takumi sen 10 for intervals and some 5k/10k and my dedicated racer is deviate nitro elite 3. All that to say, the evo sl and SB2 has been my best combo of shoes for my training and have improved my 5k time by almost 3 mins since last Oct.

I have the Takumi Sen 10 and while I have shoes I like better (Hoka Rocket X2), my PB on the 10K is in the TS10s.

r/AskRunningShoeGeeksAre Adizero EVO SL are good "Daily" Trainer? or more of a Tempo Shoe
8 months ago

I have Novablast 4 and 5 for daily, Supernova Prima for easy/long, Takumi Sen 10 for interval and short racing, and Evo SL for short fast runs (3k/5k) or tempo. They’re a lot of fun. However, I didn’t like it for easy long runs or recovery. Probably those who swear by it for easy running have their easy runs as fast as my race pace lol

I have had the possibility to test & invest in several shoes this yeat. This what I have ended up with and I find quite ideal for me. Narrow feet, forefoot/midfoot striker. Racing 5 and 10 km. Easy: Puma Velocity Nitro 4 Recovery: Puma Magnify Nitro 3 Long runs: Asics Megablast Tempo: Adidas Boston 13, Adidas Evo SL Threshold: Asics Magic Speed 4, Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3 VO2 intervals: Adidas Takumi Sen 11 Race: Adidas Takumi Sen 10, Adidas Pro 4 Trail: Saucony Edge

Rebel is lighter feeling than novablast, noosa tri or evo sl. Less cushion, especially in front. Wide toebox. Slim heel. Less bouncy under midfoot and feels like no cushion and bounce around forefoot. Felt dead and no guidance in forefoot. Evo sl felt much better. Noosa tri 16 was more bounce than 14 but felt same all around. Fit and step guidance of noosa is awesome. For one shoe go for evo sl or noosa tri. I ended up with adidas takumi zen 10 (love them and first non asics for 20 years) for race (so far two 6 km races and 5x 8km fast trainings), nb5 for daily (and one 10 km race nonpavement so far). Waiting for noosa tri 17 to replace nb5 in 4-7 months. Right now i am looking for and trying nikes pegasus trail for outdoor adventures and weekend camping all day and running shoes.

Takumi zen is my 5-7 km race shoe. bought it just for this short races every year in spring. But strictly on pavement. Tried in races with some <1km grass/forest segments last year, it had no advantage there because it needs that straight forefoot push and becomes unstable off-road. maybe have a look at asics magic speed 5.

r/AskRunningShoeGeeksDo I need a stability shoe, every time I go into a store they say I need one but I don’t have any pain or injuries running in the boston 12 and novablast (the soft foam does increase my over pronation)

This for me as well - slight overpronation - when using exclusively soft shoes whole week I do get in trouble very quickly - my 2 weeks with nb1080v14/Evo SL ended up with 2 months of ankle /PTTD pain. Switched to more stable rotation (supernova prima/boston 13) and doesn’t have any issue since then. Still using unstable Adios 9 / Takumi Sen 10 on some faster intervals but basic is done on stable shoes and that does help. If you overpronate mildly I don’t think you need Stability shoes as such, just buy something Stable/Neutral so you got solid base and mix it with something fast/fun which might be bit unstable in your rotation for faster stuff. I think personally there are stability problems with newer shoes but more than before as you have lots of soft foam / higher stack shoes that do cause various issues which did not exist 3-4 years ago.

Whatever feels comfortable for you. Every big brand has a lower stack race shoe so buy what you want. I have the takumi sen 10 and I definitely recommend it, the only downside is that is pronates a lot, but at your pace you land more on the forefoot so it is much less of a problem I think. However I didnt try any other shoe in this category.
