I have 12 shoes in my rotation, including a Takumi Sen 9 and an Evo SL. The TS is too specialized. It doesn't feel 'right' unless I'm running sub 6:30min/mile pace. Unless you are training for or racing at a sub 20min 5k I would not recommend it.
I have the Takumi Sen 9, fantastic shoe and very fast. But it’s not a daily trainer, and more of a fast 5 or 10k max shoe, you’d be better going for something else to use everyday.
I’m sure people do it but I would never use the Takumi Sen for a half. They’re for sure fast (I had the 8 for the track and almost nothing over 5k). For me, and I suspect many many others from hobby joggers to elites, there are better tools. The Superblast 2 is absolutely fast enough for a 1:40 half, and will keep you protected and stable throughout. Does it feel as amazing at speed as the Takumi? No. In fact I find that I rarely feel excited to run in the SB2 (now on my second pair after two pairs of the SB1) but I do typically feel glad that I wore them for anything long and at pace. If it’s me, I’m wearing plated super shoes for a half, but if you’re set in the two pairs you have, for your pace I vote SB2.
Adidas uppers are not the best, I have the AP3, Takumi Sen 8 and both are just weird (recycled plastic I think), the B13 apparently addressed the uppers problem. I'm about to crack open a new pair of B12s after putting 455 miles on my first pair.
I’ve been training for about 11 weeks now for a 10k coming up next Saturday. I use the Takumis for sprint workouts and the Adios Pro 4 for tempo and threshold work. The Takumis are incredible at speed and super light, just wary of the distance and conditions (brick and asphalt). I feel I know the answer but looking for perspective. Targeting sub-45 minutes which my training should allow me to achieve. [View Poll](https://www.reddit.com/poll/1ryx2xj)
Treadmill only? if yes boston 12 or sl2. I tried Takumi on a treadmill and found them super unstable.
I can recommend the Takumi Sen currently use TS8 and TS11 both come in under 200g in my size 9. The newer TS11 is a bit lighter and slightly more propulsive and stiffer than the 8 but they're all very good & very similar and all work very well for faster paced 5k or fast efforts. They would work well for you at those paces
I do lots of sprint work and I've tested a fair few shoes. Best are Adidas adizero Takumi Sen any version from 8-11 will work or Adiós 9 but it doesn't have the pop and energy return of the Takumi but it's a great trainer to strengthen the legs. I alternate between takumis and adios
Agreed that they are more aggressive but if the person has tried them on and tested them and likes the fit. I don’t think it’s an issue to get them. Everyone has their preference but it’s whatever makes running fun and enjoyable. Worrying about what shoe fits what speed isn’t enjoyable. One of my first parkruns I ran in the Vaporfly 3 in a time of 22 minutes and I’ve also ran a 16 minute 5k in the same shoe. It felt fine with both. Of course it’s catered to faster speeds but still. I also ran a 37 min 10k in the Takumi Sen which is a low stack racer while also running a 44 minute 10k in it. I don’t really care what shoe I race in as long as it’s a good fit and makes me feel better.
I found the Adidas Takumi Sens to be a very budget-friendly and effective option. Found them for £60
I focus on light and poppy shoes rather than necessarily plated, but have used both; Avanti, Adios, Takumi Sen, Evo SL, Zoom Fly. I like saving super shoes for races, personally, so you’ve got a bit more on the day than usual, but that’s just me.
