ultraboosts 5 are for 7k? i brought them for like 3.2k something a few months ago
Gait analysis at Up and Running (UK running store) had them insisting I overpronated and needed stability shoes, so they happily sold me some Kayano 31s. What they failed to tell me is that I also have high arches, so the heavy stability elements ended up doing more harm than good and ruined my gait, forcing my feet to move horizontally in the shoes and caused me to have to stop every couple of km and readjust the insole. Had months of losing my mind and losing my will to run before I tried a run in some ancient, size too small Ultraboosts I bought as casual trainers and all of a sudden ran in complete comfort and beat my own PB on my first run. i took the Kayanos back to the shop and they made me feel like I was losing my mind and just tried to sell me some insoles and wouldn’t accept they’d sold me the wrong shoes. I eventually just sold them on Vinted at a loss, bought some Evo SLs based on nothing but hype and ran very happily after as they were neutral and flexible, exactly what I needed. Only when I went to a podiatrist recently did I find out I had high arches and it all made sense why the Kayanos were such a nightmare. Turns out I barely pronate at all as well, so I wasted £180 and months of hating running just because Up and Running can’t be bothered to actually fit shoes properly, they just wanted to sell me the most expensive shoe they had.
Have these and have put 35km on it, i am 70kg and i feel like every time i use it it looses its bounce too quickly. Also hurts my calf when doing uphill jogs and i haven't encounter that issue with ultraboost.
I was in a similar situation about a year ago, and the Gel Kayanos are what allowed me to get back into running. I couldn't believe how much better I felt running in them compared to the Ultraboosts I had stuck to many several years ago. Now that I've gotten back into it I've added some faster, more fun shoes into the mix, and the Kayanos are pretty well shot, but I definitely owe them for allowing me to run pain-free after a long time off.
Adidas Ultraboost. Been using mine for work since I retired it from running more than a year ago.
When I started getting back into running a few years back, I was running in Adidas Ultraboosts, but then got into the rabbit hole that is the RUnning Shoes Geeks sub and found out they were one of the least liked and heaviest shoes to run in. There's def a difference! Since then I got into New Balances's and working out which shoes I like for which. I run about 20-25km / 12-15miles per week, and have a two shoe rotation. I have the NB Rebels for interval/tempo days and the 880's for recovery/longer day runs. They're not as springy but they are very comfortable and keep me rolling. I had tried 1080's as well which were super popular, but I found them too squishy and cushioned for my liking, and found I liked a firmer/responsive shoe - hence I ended up at the 880s Long story short, running shoes do make a difference! Different shoes are designed for different things so it may take you a bit to find what works for you - it could also be worth going into a running/sport shoe store, getting measured up and getting some recommendations.
OP, if you love Ultraboost, be cautious about this advice. I have Gel Numbus for slow easy runs and I hate them with a passion. I find Asics shoes to be completely unresponsive, especially these ones, especially in comparison with Ultraboost. In fact, I hate these shoes so much, that thanks to them I decided to stop experimenting and continue to buy Ultraboosts and Saucony Triumph / Guide as my daily slow runners from now on.
Fellow flat-footer here! I've had great success with Adidas Ultraboost for running - they provide good arch support without being too aggressive. The cushioning really helps distribute impact evenly, which is crucial for us flat-footed folks. Pair them with those Power Steps you mentioned and your feet will thank you.
