They’re all good for me! I think the newer versions of Altras are less roomy. I think the torins and maybe lone peaks are more roomy. I wouldn’t use lone peak for road running anyway. If you don’t want zero drop the fwd via or experience flows are great. I’ve heard the flow 3s are quite narrow on the mid foot. I have the 1s and love them. I usually get men’s for a wider fit but I’m ok with the women’s too. I really only need the width on the bunion so all the altras have worked for me there.

I’ve only ever run in Altras but I love them! Torin is a good starting point but I’ve been happy with my FWDs as well if you don’t want zero drop. Also I recently got the experience wilds for trail and love them!! I did size up in those.

I developed a Morton’s neuroma after my feet spread during pregnancy and I unknowingly restarted running in too-small shoes 🙃 Get resized after having kids, folks! Now I will only wear Altras and Topos. I have Torins and Phantoms, and I just got the Fwd Via on sale that I’m excited to try out!

I'm a big Torin fan. I have a pair of 7s with 400 miles on them that are still going strong, the cushion is starting to lose a little spring (unsurprising as I am nearly 200lbs lol) but zero issues with the upper etc. I haven't tried the 8s but from what I have heard they're not a big change. If you're willing to try a 4mm drop I also really love the FWD Via. I'm a dedicated barefoot (for non running) and cushioned zero drop (for running) person otherwise but this particular shoe has been really great to me and doesn't annoy me like other shoes with a drop do. My pair with 250 miles is still in great shape and I think they did a much better job with the upper on this one vs their other road shoes. These are the same foot shape as the Lone Peaks, whereas the Torin is a hair narrower. I also have run on roads with the Lone Peaks and it's fine other than wearing down the lugs very quickly. I still have a pair of 6s though so I have no comment on the newer models.

r/AskRunningShoeGeeksAdvice on finding road shoe for wide feet with lower midsole drop (4mm)?

There aren't too many 4mm options that fit wide and run similar to Ghost. Altra features wide toe boxes. The Experience Flow 2 and FWD VIA are 4mm drop. New Balance are available in multiple widths. The More v5 features a 4mm drop and a very wide platform, but it's a max stacked and heavy shoe. 1080 v14 and 880 v15 are 6mm. The 1080 is cushy while the 880 has a firmer ride that is similar to Ghost. If you are ok running in a mild stability shoe, the Vongo v6 is lower stacked like Ghost. I personally love New Balance and each shoe I mentioned helps me to achieve a midfoot strike, especially the Vongo.

I’m looking for the same things in a road shoe that you are. I wish the Kinvara had a wider toe box. I really like everything else about that shoe. The Hyperion 2 fits really well. To me, it feels like more than 8mm of drop. I did a demo run in the Torin 8. It’s not a bad shoe but feels a little dead and stiff. I didn’t care much for the heel cup either. The Rebel V4 fits weird. It’s too short but has a really wide fit. I put 50 miles in a pair and decided to pass them on to a friend. Kept getting blisters on the end of my toes. It could be a possibility for you. The Mount to Coast R1 caused me severe arch pain. I have high arches so I don’t understand why I was getting pain there. I think I actually liked the Torin 8 better. The Altra FWD Via feels really good in the store. It’s more stack than I want but tempted to give it a go. It’s kind of expensive. I can’t find a Rivera to try on. The Altra Experience Flow might be an option. Everything about the Kinvara feels better though with the exception of the toe box.

I've put a lot of miles on Altra's 4MM drop, FWD Via. If I'm not on trails, it's become my go to road shoe. .

I alternate between Altra FWD Via and Mount to Coast R1. I just bought a pair of EVO SL but I don't like them very much. I use Hoka Skyflow for super duper easy runs. Other shoes I bought on super sale and am sending back: Tempus (too squishy), Adidas Prima 2 - too squishy I don't like squish/too soft of a shoe.

I have two pairs of Altra FWD Via (bought a second pair on same to store when the 2 came out because I love the 1s so much); Mount to Coast R1, two pairs of Superblast 2 (same situation as the FWD Via), and a worn out pair of Hoka Skyflows I haven't thrown out yet. I learned from Brooks to always buy a backup pair of a show you love because the company *will* ruin what you love about it when they put out a new model.

I have recurring PF. A combination of PT strengthening and good shoes helped me a lot. Currently running in: Altra FWD Via, SB2, and Mount to Coast R1. I also learned to never walk barefoot - Oofos all the time.

r/AskRunningShoeGeeksLong run and easy run shoe recommendations for wide foot runner
2 months ago

I run for my recovery runs the altra fwd via 2 tons of cushion and great for slow runs definitely at least to me they aren’t fast, they have a 4mm drop which might be too much but I run in 4mm-6mm drop only. Very wide toe box too. I run in Neo zens for faster long runs and they work well for me but some don’t like because it’s unstable, but that’s my favorite part about it, I pulled out laces because it slips on and I have room to let my foot just strike where it naturally wants.

I love them. Will buy another pair. Tho many comparisons of the adidas evo SL has me intrigued. They are (were) crappy sounding when I got them. Don’t care. So plus. Legs and hips feel fine the day after 10+km runs and 245-250lb. Running feels easier. My other shoes are Altra FWD and NOVABLAST 3. I like the NB3 as well. SB2 fits better. Wider toe box

Newer runner here. At 111kg. I too started in zero drop altra due to calf issues. I’ve since went to 8mm and have zero issues. I have the Olympus .. sold to a friend. Felt slow. I transitioned to the ALTRA FWD via. 5mm drop. Then added Superblast…. Which are by far the best show for me. So I bought another pair. SOOOO CUSHIONED

Alteas with the original (widest) width soles. Vivoactives may fit you better as well. Pricey but generally well made, although the increased cost does not reliably predict durability.
