Hello all! **TLDR:** I'm in desperate need to find a good running shoe, all the zero drop shoes suck, I'm too thick to wear fully barefoot for running, needs a bit more cushion. Please help. **Context:** I had plantar fasciitis pain for almost 2 years wearing whatever the hell shoe I wanted. Crossfit high impact running, jumping, plus wearing shoes that squished my toes for too long wore my feet out. After 1 year of PT, cupping, massages and Graston scraping, I finally found stem wave therapy and thank God I did! Lots of scarring made my plantar fasciitis impossible to get rid of so after it was fixed I vowed to listen to my feet forever. I switched to barefoot-like shoes almost 1.5 years ago and my feet have loved it ever since. However, all shoes suck now which I'm realizing is totally normal haha. **Reason for the post:** I would really like to start running casually again and I have flat feet, very low arches, but I'm a thick lady. I can't go full barefoot running at this size, I've tried, kinda hurts. What hurts far more is all the fucking garbage zero drop shoes that have these ridiculous high walls of foam and plastic to reinforce the midfoot. Took me like 3 shoe tries to realize that this is my problem!!!! Lots of new models have a barefoot-like feel with wide toe boxes and minimal cushioning but that midfoot is so stiff I'd rather run in heels at this point. Back in the good ol' days, I used to run in Altra Solstice sneakers but they really don't make them like this anymore. I just tried Altra Torin-6, terrible gave me ankle pain and forced an angle of pronation that was unnatural. Flux Footwear runners, terrible pain, feet still throbbing from a casual walk. **Thoughts:** Anyone else have this issue? What do y'all wear or recommend? Google Gemini recommended the Altra escalante racer 2s but on their website when I went to go order them lots of people reviewed them as being too stiff. This can't be my best option Thank you in advance for any responses!!!
Get a fitting at a running store. I have had good luck with Altra Torins and I usually buy mens vs womens.
Wide feet here. Wide toe box changed everything for me (for altra torin). Went from suffering through 5-7k to enjoying 10-13km. Everyone is different so worth going to a specialist.
I’m around the same size and run inn Altra Torins and I really like them
Long time Altra fan (Escalantes, Torins). Altra doesn’t really do road runners well anymore - heavy, unbreathable. Altra trail runners I still love (Timps). Try the Hoka Mach 6 in wide if you’re willing to venture outside zero drop. They are low drop (5 mm) and I have no issues mixing this low drop with zero drops.
Altra Torins are all I run in. I have super high arches plus wide front foot. I have 367ish miles on my current pair and am about to buy a new set to break in for a half marathon I'm running next month.
