My podiatrist recommended these. My feet are now pain free.
I really like the Via Olympus 2. They are so comfortable and they come in all black, so they go with everything.
I only wear Altras. I’ve gotten fitted a couple of times and every time I feel like I wasted my money because I end up hating the shoes. I really prefer zero drop shoes and the via Olympus 2 is the best shoe ever. They are phasing it out so it’s on sale right now. Also the torin for a less cushioned shoe. Love them both and I can’t recommend trying them enough
My HM (1h49) rotation last year was full Altra: - Easy/daily: Via Olympus 1 - Tempo/speed work: Escalante - Race: vanish carbon 1 No complaints there .
Mount To Coast. I've got the R1, T1 and just received the P1 in the mail today. Almost 400 miles on the R1 and they still look brand new. 300 miles on my Altra Olympus 5's had them falling completely apart.
I’d wear whatever your long run shoe is, at those paces. Don’t overthink it. Comfort is gonna be king for 5+ hours on your feet. I ran a 4:27 last year in max cushion Altras, then a 3:55 in the spring in Topo Spectres. Still haven’t talked myself into a super shoe. Maybe once I’m pushing for 3:30.
Alteas with the original (widest) width soles. Vivoactives may fit you better as well. Pricey but generally well made, although the increased cost does not reliably predict durability.
Altra, love the zero drop too and have 6 pair of Torin that are only suitable for walking now. The recent editions of Torin weren't comfortable, so I went with Hoka. May have to try the Olympus.
Altras are known for their 0 drop shoes, though not all are. If you go with a 0 drop and have not previously spent a lot of miles without a drop, work up to it slowly. You can get seriously injured if you do too many miles too quickly. Some people love them, it gave me knee and hip pain. Everyone's body is different!
I live my Altras. The zero drop takes a little getting used to but now I prefer it.
