I am training for my first half marathon after being a casual runner for a few years. I recently got fitted in asic gel cumulus 27s at my local running store and have put nearly 80 miles on them so far. I find them great up to about 4.5-5miles. Anything longer I feel fine after the run but get serious aches in my knees when I'm in bed that night. Am I right in thinking I probably need more cushion for longer runs? Its not pain while running or throughout the day. Just significant soreness when I lay down at night after longer runs. Anyone have anything similar or recommendations (shoes, stretches/exercises, etc) TIA
It interesting you're saying something similar. They're not bad shoes and its not pain-just achy for longer distances. I have already designated them as short/easy run shoes and gonna consult with a pt friend and my local running store for something else for longer runs. I have the endorphin speed to my list to ask about! Thanks
I actually got these from my local running store with a fitting etc-Idk if I mentioned it anywhere else. I switched from brooks over to asics. I used to wear the brooks levitate which they have discontinued and I cant find my size anywhere so I was forced into something new lol
I second ASICS. Used to be Brooks Ghost but now I love my Gel Cumulus 27.
I'm trying the cumulus 27 out this training block as well. It's ok. It is boring to run in but has adequate cushion for the first few miles. I've also been a bit more achy with them, but nothing unbearable. I rotate between that and my endorphin speed 4s. I use the cumulus for easy/long runs and the Endorphin Speeds for anything uptempo. If you're getting another shoe, maybe something to target speed as the cumulus aren't great for speedy sessions. Another option, would be to use your Cumulus for shorter/easier runs and then get a super trainer like the Superblast 2 for speed sessions and long runs. The aches could be the shoes, but they could also be a result of overtraining, poor form, or lack of strength training so before you buy another pair you may want to consider what else could be causing you issues.
You like the Kayano?? I'm an ASICS die hard, and I LOVED the Gel-Cumulus 25's. I HATE the Gel-cumulus 27 thought. My right foot overpronates a bit, and the Novablast MURDERED my ankle and made my peroneal tendon hurt. I like the Superblast 2, and was a great fast shoe for me. I'm eying up the Kayano 32 as a replacement for my last set of Gel-Cumulus 25's...I had 4 pairs, and they are all about clapped, and I am so so so sad. What's your review of the Kayano? Have you ran in the Cumulus'?
I'm also running for a half marathon in April! I bought the Asics gel cumulus 27 shoes, which got suggested to me cause i've never really ran before lol. I only need some reliable shoes that will last.
ASICS gel cumulus are fantastic.. ended up buying another pair of 26’s and the 27’s recently. Looking into buying an extra pair soon. Definitely go to a store and get fitted though. Although it took me a few tries to find a sales associate who knew what they were doing. My feet change with my weight so right now they’re a lil chunky. Ended up going back to half a size up and normal width instead of normal size and wide and my high arches are happy now.
I have the same as my first proper running shoe. I've ran 300km in them so far and they're still in great condition.
I’ve got these too - very comfy, but I got them fitted in store and tried a few options - it’s a slower shoe. Def go to a shop that specialises and try lots on to see what works for you.
I swear by my asics gel cumulus 27s.
They're great but too expensive for the performance or durability they offer. I you had to run in Asics forever you'd better be rich. Edit : many downvotes but I stand firm. Your daily trainer at Ascics will cost the average runner around $1 to $1.5/mile. This is unheard of at any other brand. But who cares, you only run in a daily trainer two thirds of the time, and it's only for life.
