r/firstmarathonMarathon training shoes - wide feet (wide midfoot)

The 880v15 are wider in the midfoot than the 1080. I got the 4E and it’s nice, actual footbed is wider not just a sloppy huge upper. The asics wide kayanos are good too but give a lot of extra upper and volume. I’ve been marathon training with wide feet and I rotate the kayano and skyward x.

During my time, TBR was and still is a heavy runner, hehe. I was using Kayano 21 at the time and it did not fail me. Now I'm using Kayano 31 and Novablast 5; both have good performance and are injury-free.

r/AskRedditWhat are some good running shoes to consider for a beginner runner?

People can recommend shoes, but it might just be more waste of money. Shoes are not cheap. Best bet is go to a running shoe store and spend 20 minutes trying on shoes they recommend. I would do that and buy the pair there and then go online and find the previous year's model and buy that at a bigger discount. Stability with cushion would be something like Brooks Adrenaline or Glycerin or New Balance 860 or ASICS Gel-Kayano or Saucony Guide. If you are having foot pain custom insoles from a foot doctor would be the best bet. I had to do that after fracturing my foot twice.

Superblasts 2 have dropped in price due to the threes. What type of shoe are after? Stability, tempo, long distance. I found the EVO SL unstable day to day. When running and in stride it fun. Im a wannabe powerlifter - 179 cm, 105kg and over pronate. I rotate between superblast 2, evos and kayano (stabilty and long distance)

I currently use HOKA Clifton’s for running but due to the tall heel stack, I use Brookes Adrenaline or Asics Kayanos for more high intensity workouts like Hyrox, circuits etc

I was just going to comment on this. As a former semi-competitive runner (1:26 half marathon PB), you should NOT be training with racing shoes like Hyperspeed. Vapors and Hyperspeeds should be for race day only, and the final runs leading up to the race or time trial. Regular training should be with medium to high cushioning shoes like Kayano or Nimbus. Besides, your goal in training is not to be as fast as possible. If your target is 3:30 pace, once you can do it in Kayanos, you will be able to breeze through it on race day in Vaporflys. I’m assuming OP is young and feels invincible, but you will regret it later on in life. I’m 40+ now and had to go through a lot of supplements and physical rehab to fix my knees.

I overpronate too and l just got myself a pair of asics kayano, they’re great. I used to have some pain in my shins before but now it’s completely gone since l’ve been using them!

I find the Boston series much more stable. And I run a lot in Kayanos.

Start with stability shoes since you have got knock knees they help control pronation. Check out ASICS Gel-Kayano, New Balance 860, or Brooks Adrenaline (all offer wide sizes and solid support). HOKA Arahi is great if you want max cushioning without losing stability. Try them on in-store late afternoon (feet swell), walk a bit and consider a firm orthotic if you need extra correction. Worth paying a bit more for fit it saves your knees and lasts longer.
