SUPERBLAST 2
Marathon workhorse, but loud and clunky at slow paces.
Running these analyses costs money. Buy through my links to help keep lights on! I may get a small commission.
If you prefer some stability you can eliminate Nova 5 from the list. Nova 5 is soft and the side walls are smaller. Kayano 32 provides the most stability, but it's also a rigid and clunky shoe to run in. Kayano 33 solves some of this problem. Nimbus 27 feels heavy and slow. Glycerin 23 is better balanced. I'd recommend checking out Saucony Omni 23. Saucony packed it with Pebax foam and a stabilizing post. Much more energetic than Kayano, Glycerin, and Nimbus.
I've run in Kayanos since the earliest versions. I've also run in Clifton, Bondi, 880, 860, and Ghost. Since you're looking for a durable shoe, you can rule out Hoka and NB. I love NB personally, but durability wise you can't beat Brooks.
Nimbus is similar to Kayano but without the stability features. The wife platform and raised sidewalls help to stabilize the high stack. It's a durable shoe. Every Brooks model I've run in had great build quality except Ghost Max. The glue failed in the heel before 100 miles. The rear of the shoe actually peeled off. Ghost, Glycerin, Adrenaline, and Hyperion are super durable. You may want to check out Saucony Hurricane 25. It's a stability model like Kayano but it's lighter, smoother, more energetic, and has a lower drop. I'm loving mine and so far they're extremely durable.
Older Clifton models were neutral shoes. I'm an overpronator and have run in Clifton and Kayano, rotating between neutral and stability . The Kayano is a beast of a stability shoe. If you weren't experiencing pain or getting injured in the Clifton, the Kayano might be too much for you. Hoka added an active foot frame in the heel to the new Clifton. It provides some guidance without getting in your face. Hoka Skyflow also has it, and incorporates supercritical EVA for a livelier ride. I currently run in Skyflow and prefer them over Arahi and Clifton.
Thanks for sharing your impressions. I've lost count of how many versions of Kayano and Glycerin that I've run in. I agree with you about Kayano. It's loud, slappy, and the support isn't balanced. I prefer the Glycerin series, but I haven't pulled the trigger on the 23s. They gained weight. Currently I'm running in Hoka Arahi 8 and Adrenaline GTS 25. Does the weight of the 23 hold it back?
I have a nice rotation of shoes that includes everything from the bargain firm running Asics Gel Excite, Asics 'Blast line, and carbon plated shoes. No disrespect to my high end shoes, but I prefer shoes that are lower to the ground and firmer. I mean yeah the super light and bouncy shoes feel fast and all, but over long miles a firmer shoe just feels more comfortable and stable to me. There are "real" running shoes on the market that aren't two inch sponges. Brooks Ghost, Saucony Ride/Kinvara, and Mizuno Wave Rider are some examples of neutral models. Asics GT 2000/Kayano, Brooks Adrenaline, Saucony Guide, and Mizuno Wave Inspire are firm stability models.
Why not Asics Kayano wide? They are my perfect shoe.
I have the Gel Kayano and love them! That said, I did get a proper gait analysis in a running shoe store, so can’t comment on whether these would be the right fit for you or not, but they certainly were for me!
I was just noticing yesterday that my Kayanos are not feeling as springy as they used to, and I only have 190 miles on them. :( I’m considering buying a second pair to rotate in, but I already have two other pairs of road shoes!
You can find asics nimbus or gel kayano for 5.5k if may malapit sayo outlet. Or new balance 1080 or more. Pede din puma magmax. Heavy side din ako, while I like to explore Chinese brands, preference ko din ung matry ko.
People can recommend shoes, but it might just be more waste of money. Shoes are not cheap. Best bet is go to a running shoe store and spend 20 minutes trying on shoes they recommend. I would do that and buy the pair there and then go online and find the previous year's model and buy that at a bigger discount. Stability with cushion would be something like Brooks Adrenaline or Glycerin or New Balance 860 or ASICS Gel-Kayano or Saucony Guide. If you are having foot pain custom insoles from a foot doctor would be the best bet. I had to do that after fracturing my foot twice.
