I agree, I have about 100 K of various terrain speeds and distance. It felt and reacted like a slightly more flexible slightly faster Superblast. Not dramatically different but a bit better .

The foam in my mostly 2 shoe rotation (Neo Zen, EVO SL) refuses to die so they've carried me through the year. I bought the Megablast on my birthday because I had an Asics 25% off coupon & was depressed, lol. But I don't really like them. Don't make impulse buys. I'd rank them 1) Zen 2) Adios Pro 3 (carried over from last year as my race shoe) 3) EVO 4)Megablast

Noosa Tri, Sonicblast or Magic Speed I bought the Megablast for the subt workouts but I don't really like it at those paces. I know I'm in the minority, but it feels a little clunky at faster paces. Last winter I used the Novablast 5 for a lot of the subt workouts & it worked well if you can deal with a softer shoe. NB5 is an absolute gem. It's much smoother than the Megablast & you can use it for long runs. Really baffles me how Megablast is $85 more than NB5.

I'm glad someone else mentioned the tacky & loud outsole. These are the grippiest shoes I've worn. Grippier than Continental. But it almost feels like an artificial grip that'll go away with use. Like stickum on gloves. Shoes are definitely loud at easy paces. Lady was walking a dog & heard me about a block away approaching. It was embarrassing how loud these sound.

Great points. Megablast foam is the best I've ever felt, but like I wrote below the roll through/geometry doesn't agree with me & it's a letdown. I want to love the shoe, especially for the price I paid. Interesting points about the hips because I get glute/piriformis tightness & even a little sciatic pain down my leg when trying to do threshold work in these. Even feel it with easy runs a little, & feel like I have to work a little harder than I do in other shoes. My lower legs feel great through. I can't wear them 2 days in a row & have to balance things out with a midstack shoe. I've often felt an earlier & more aggressive rocker would really help to roll through the shoe quicker or perhaps a lower stack height. Combo of stiff foam, plus massive amount of it, + the softness makes it feel like I have to work a little extra compared to other shoes. I'm almost to 400 miles so sometimes before runs I'll bend the shoe to 90 degrees & twist it a few times to try to break the foam & make it more flexible. I know a big no no but anything to make the shoe more natural like on foot.

I'm in the minority but I don't like them. They feel very unnatural to my stride. Feel like I have to work to roll through the geometry. Like the shoe is fighting against me. I've stopped using them for faster stuff because of this, & only use them for easy runs & even then I feel it.

I went with the Megablast. Received them last week, I've done a few km's already a feel good with them. First run was hard on the legs because I'm used to have more stability, but the next few ones have been great. I feel faster and less tired. But jf the Superblast are narrow for you, not sure if the Megablast are the answer for you. Specially the toebox. Neo Vista 2 maybe? Someone recommended it to me on a different post. Novablast 5 or Vomero Plus as well.

MB are definitely stiffer than the NB. Not in an uncomfortable way but definitely not cloudlike. They just want to go fast. For the workouts you described the MB would be an awesome shoe. The only downside is the upper, which sucks for the first 30-60miles. The toe box is just a little small and the synthetic material of the upper is just weird (but very thin which is nice if you’re in an area for the summer). I got a pinky toe blister and sore big toe the first few runs but now they’ve settled in and I’m glad I gave them a break in period. If you can afford it, get the MB for workouts. Get the NB for easy runs. That gives the foam of both shoes some time to breathe and will stretch their lifespan out (in theory)

Try the Adidas Evo SL, it is fairly soft and bouncy. If you want the same sort of foam as in the More, go with the NB 1080. If you really just like the More, which is a fine shoe though very heavy and slow, try the new More v6. The new Asics Megablast may also work for you, it is softer than the Superblast. You could also try the Puma MagMax and Mizuno NeoVista2. In general I would go to a store and just try things on. Look for a shoe with a good stack height, no plate, and try in particular A-TPU. I would also suggest you try the Adidas Adizero Pro 4, which is a very soft foam, and has rods, not plates. You may not have the pain with just the rods. This is a less stable shoe though, so it may or may not work for you.

If your going to buy a new pair of shoes you might as well get one that is good at the job, I would probably look at a waterproof light trail shoe from Altra, Topo or Inov8 as I like my foot shaped shoes... But depending on what fits for you the newer ASICS shoes have the best grip according to run repeat. I did my parkrun in a pair of Megablasts today and it was great on the paved paths and the hard unpaved paths but it was pretty terrible in the 2 sections of boggy mid we get on the course. Still I was only 10 seconds off my PB so not really loosing much (except my little toe) wearing them.

Kayano’s are meant to support flat feet and ASICS other shoes (besides the GT series) don’t have arch support. So when I use Megablast and Superblast shoes I need an orthotic to support my feet. I love both of those shoes, been training in the Superblast and recently tried the Megablast—it felt the same under my feet but gave more pop in my run. Going to use them in Philly Marathon next week!

I'm okay spending more on running shoes since that directly translates to satisfaction in the sport and can make a difference on injury rate (contrast with, say, hats, singlets, etc). If you want to run a lot of miles, you simply have to take care of your feet and legs. So the juice is worth the squeeze. Anyway - I'd find someone who reviews a lot of shoes and doesn't get them paid for by a brand. Then, I'd try a narrower selection of shoes from there. Personally, I like Yowana/Supwell, but ymmv. He's a heel striker though, and it seems like you are too, so you might have similar types of shoes that work for you. If that is the case, the answer you're looking for is "Megablast". Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Also yes. Best pair of trainers I've had in many years (I'm 100 miles into my pair).
