I ran a 3:50 mara last year in a pair of metaspeed edge Paris. I was 93kg and they were awesome. I was stupidly doing an ultra 6 days later so didn't really push the run but they kept it fun and comfortable
For me, Evo sl or endorphin speed. I could use those for daily, but id also have no issue racing in them. In my rotation they occupy a big middle zone where they can do a lot of different things. Ive never had issue with durability on the speeds (800km+). But i also think there are better race day shoes, and better trainers. Shoes are so specialized now, theyre each designed for a goal, and no one shoe will be perfect at everything. I have 4 shoes in my rotation. And actually the easiest one to cut (if I had to) would be my race day shoes (metapseed edge paris), because I really only use them a couple times a year for races.
I ran races for years when I would just race in my trainers. I had 1 pair of shoes id use for anything. I have a 3 shoe rotation now: nice trainer (comfy, supportive, can log long miles in them). A tempo trainer/something for faster training. And then a race day shoe. My tempo trainers have always been endorphin speeds (on my 3rd pair and have got 800k-1000km each). They are a light shoe with a nylon (not carbon) plate. If i could only have 1 shoe it would be this shoe. I could do any pace or race, wet/dry. And it's nice fun shoe. My race shoes used to be endorphin pro 3s. Now they're metaspeed edge paris. Both carbon plated. The race shoes are more or less useless to me outside of a race. Where the only goal is fast. The endorphin pros were good, but theyre too "disconnected" for me to use on training runs. Like im perched up on the shoe not in it. If that makes sense. The metaspeed edge feel like mush foam when standing, and theyre slappy when going slower. Like if landing further back on your foot you cant roll, the stiff carbon plate wants to slap down onto the front kind of forcing your landing. And there's no real support in it. It's fine when racing. So what im saying is race shoes are good at 1 thing: going a bit faster, but they can very well suck at other things. And perhaps a bad choice for someone for a long race if their form breaks down. So perhaps a good "super trainer " shoe first that will let you run fast workouts and also race. And maybe after that look at a dedicated race shoe if you think you need it. Some of the new asics look interesting like sonic blast, or megablast, superblast.
I find the metaspeed paris quite roomy in the toe box. Probably the most roomy of any of the shoes I own. I have the edge version.
I have dedicated race day shoes. I really only use them to race and once or twice leading into a race. So they last quite a while. I had/have endorphin speed 3 then 4s for other fast training runs. It's kind of a Swiss army shoe for me, I find it does a lot of things well, and holds up well. Tempo, intervals/track workouts. My daily shoe is a triumph 21.
Right now, metaspeed edge paris. Because I only race a few times a year, race shoes last quite a while. Been happy with them.

Help me with a long run shoe. I ran 2:26 marathon and am hoping for a long run shoe that would be suitable for runs at that pace, while still offering enough support. I'm not sure most racing shoes are sufficiently saving the legs. Shoes I've tried that aren't pure daily trainers: Boston 13 - good but also very stiff, I feel like it beats my legs too much. EVO SL - great, just not enough support for 30+ km long runs. Novablast 5 - better than EVO SL in support, but loses all pop after 150km. Disappointing. I'm curious about Megablast and Prime X Strung, but price tags are nuts and it's not possible to buy them locally to try them on. Any other suggestions? Otherwise I may stick with changing shoes for MP sections. EDIT: Racing shoes I've used and loved: Adidas Pro 4 and Asics Metaspeed Edge Paris. I also have Mizuno Neo Vista 2 (slow shoe) but I find the feeling of it incredible. I ran in On Cloudboom Echo 3 before, did not like the firmness. TL/DR I prefer a bit softer shoes, but not extremely soft like Asics Metaspeed Sky Tokyo.
733km on EVO SL, the foam died on me (82kg). 270 on NB5. Racing shoes I've used and loved: Adidas Pro 4 and Asics Metaspeed Edge Paris. I'll add to the post that I like the feeling of not very firm shoes.
I am current running most on Megablast . Started with Adidas but slowly become a Asics fan. Start with NB5, then get Metaspeed Paris Edge, love it for the 5K, Then upgrade to SB2. Curious about the Superblast 3.
Asics Metaspeed Sky Tokyo for this weekend's marathon. I ran a 10k race a couple of weeks ago in the Metaspeed Edge Paris. 32k trail race I did earlier this year was in the Adidas Terrex Speed Ultra.
The ASICS S4 is designed specifically for people shooting for a <4. It’s a supershoe, but it’s got a bit more stability than some-which makes it a “better” choice for those who may be out longer and get a bit more fatigued and have some form faltering in the later miles. I have a pair. They excel at 9min/mile. They are…meh at anything faster or slower (for me). You can tell they have been built to go exactly that pace. And only that pace. I am also working on a sub 4 and I’m not going to wear them for my race. There are tons of Super shoes out there and I enjoy a number of them. I have worn the Adios Pro 3 for years and liked those a lot. I’ve got a pair of Metaspeed edge+ that I like. I just fell into a cheap pair of Metaspeed Sky Paris and those are amazing. For stability over the long haul though, the Adios Pro 3, Deviate Nitro Elite 3, SC Elite v3/4 (4 is “faster”) and Endorphin Pro 4 have been my preference. There are so many factors at play. Your gait, your size, your foot strike, and general preferences and fit and all kinds of other things affect how you’ll respond to a shoe. If you can go to a store and try some on, give them a little test and you’ll get an idea. There are shoes that I wouldn’t want to wear for a full because they are not stable enough for me. There are excellent shoes out there that aren’t for me because I can’t keep up with them (yet). There are shoes that maybe aren’t “super” shoes but are going to be a better racer than a regular daily trainer. All that for: is there something better? Maybe. Maybe not. It really depends on how you feel/respond to the shoes in question. Some shoes may be worse for you even if they make Kipchoge fly. If you can find a way to try them, it will be the best. I am 51F, 4’11” and 97lbs (which is probably proportionally about the same as you-just half a foot shorter LOL).
I’m a total ASICS freak and have really learned to listen to what different shoes are telling me. I honestly can’t recommend the Metaspeed Sky Paris or Edge Paris enough. The biggest thing is understanding your mechanics. As the pace increases, pay attention to what happens with stride length versus cadence. If you naturally open up and lengthen your stride, go Sky. If you tend to quicken turnover and keep a tighter stride, the Edge is the better play. For racing, I’d strongly suggest one of those plated options for both the half and the full. They just feel smoother, more efficient, and help you hold pace longer when fatigue sets in. I still love the Megablast for daily miles and uptempo training because it’s fun and forgiving, but on race day those plated ASICS are simply on another level.
Yeah, I did a 5k in mine, so I know what you mean. That said, I think Endo Elite 2s are best for steady, fastish marathon pace miles. For shorter distances, I prefer to something a little firmer and more stable, like the Metaspeed Edge Paris.
