I do all my training in Superblast 2 (44.5) but recently bought the Metaspeed Edge Tokyo (44.5) and they fit like a glove whereas the Superblast are a bit tight around the toes.

The Metaspeed will give you a little more room than the Superblast 2

I’ve done 1000km in my Superblast 2 and bought Metablast Edge Tokyo last week and have done 2x11 miles with intervals in each. No calf issues but I am hurting in new places. I think you should expect that too going to a new shoe that’s more aggressive but it could just be the shoe isn’t suited to you. The Tokyo comes in Edge and Sky versions to suit different running types so goes to show you how different things can be. The edge feel very fast to me

I have them as well as the megablast and metaspeed edge tokyo. The megablast literally does everything the Evo SL does but better. More bounce, better stability, similar weight, better upper and I run faster in it too. Metaspeed? That one's just stupid fast. Evo SL is overhyped because its relatively cheap. But id spend another 50 on the Megablast any day of the year.

I am someone with a wide and flat midfoot, almost an anti-arch when I’m just standing. I also thought the Metaspeeds wouldn’t work for me until I demo-ed the Sky Paris at a local run shop event. They partnered with Asics and took us on a 19km route so I had a decently long run in them. When standing, the arch bump protruded and felt uncomfortable. When running at pace, I was aware of that arch bump but it somehow didn’t cause any discomfort or hot spots. I really considered a pair after but the narrow heel felt a bit too unstable for me to use as a marathon shoe. When the Edge Tokyo came out, I ended up getting a pair. The softer top layer of Leap made the arch bump feel even less noticeable than the Paris series, and the slightly wider heel felt just stable enough. I used them for a marathon last weekend and the arch wasn’t an issue at all. Just wanted to share my experience since I had the same worries you did at first about the Asics shoes. You’re a good amount faster than me so you’d be on feet for even less time.

Most people are commenting on stability and pronation but I think OP is referring to the feeling of the medial part of the mid and insole digging into their arch (or lack thereof) in the shoe. I have a wide and flat midfoot and have the Edge Tokyo. I’ll be honest, the feeling kind of just stays there. Either your feet get used to it or it’ll be an issue. I raced a marathon in the Edge Tokyo and got to take the Sky Paris on a long demo run. That feeling was more noticeable in the Sky Paris and less so in the Edge Tokyo. I think for the Edge Tokyo, the softer layer of FF Leap on top dug until my feet less compared to the firmer FF Turbo+ of the Sky Paris. I spent about 2 hours in the Sky Paris and by the end, the pressure was noticeable and mildly uncomfortable but didn’t cause any blistering or anything. Don’t know how it would feel over the marathon distance. The Edge Tokyo was fine for me. Still noticeable but not too bad - the benefits of the ride outweighed the cost.

Heel striker here, I love the Metaspeed Edge Tokyo

For marathon training the megablast or superblast are great long run companions, but if you have the sonic blast that may already fit the bill. My personal rotation (I am currently in a marathon build targeting a 3:20) is Novablast for easy and recovery, Megablast for medium long, long runs, and Metaspeed Edge Tokyo for speed work and marathon pace long runs as well as race day. This covers all the bases for me.

I prefer saving the miles of my Edge Tokyo for my actual A races, but that’s just me. I’ll use the Edge Tokyo on those race rehearsals in long runs with longer blocks of target MP. For B-races and speed workouts, the MagicSpeed 5 is just a nice fit. Plus it has some similarities with the Tokyo line, which makes, imo, the MagicSpeed a good training partner to the Metaspeed.

I'd rather be on the Edge Tokyo if I had to pick. I doubt I'll ever race in the Magic Speed 5. I'll try parkrun in the MS5 next week to see how it feels at higher speed but I'd be surprised if it is nicer than the Edge Tokyo. For training I'm sticking with the Magic Speed, I don't want to run in the most gentle shoe possible so I can get a bit more load/adaptation.

For me the sizing was the same for both. (size 50.5 EU). Maybe the Magic Speed is a tiny bit roomier inside but there isn't much in it. If the Edge Tokyo fits you well I'd be surprised if the magic speed doesn't fit.

I do: \- 1 pair race shoes - for races and time trials (maybe one long run if marathon training and haven't gone more than 21km in them) \- 1-2 pair workout shoes - for any run with marathon pace or faster, race shoes turn into workout shoes after around 200km \- 2 pair daily trainers - for easy runs Specifically right now: race shoe: asics metaspeed edge tokyo workout shoes: asics metaspeed sky paris, New Balance SuperComp Elite V4 easy shoes: nike pegasus 41, hoka mach 6 I mostly retire shoes once they hit 800-1000km or feel terrible to run in. I get my easy run shoes as on sale as possible, usually grabbing last year pegasus, novablast, nimbus, mach, or w/e on sale. If I were you I'd start by just buying 2 different pairs of shoes for easy running, and tracking mileage on them. If you feel so inclined or find a good price then you can buy some fancy racing shoes, and use them for big speed days too if you want.

I used metaspeed edge Tokyo for my mara yesterday. Finished a little faster than you but if I knew they were coming out, would have bought the ASICS megablast. They say it's THE shoe for 3:30+ marathoners
