I use a shoe like Endorphin Speed or Sonicblast for tempo and threshold sessions. For Vo2 max and intervals less thab 800m, I generally use and old race shoe. Right now, thay is the Metaspeed Sky Paris.
i feel like the metsapeed sky paris is definitely a stiffer ride which I think I like when I pick up the pace. Are you saying AP4 is a soft shoe?
Yeah I used the sky paris (old pair) for the half marathon and they felt fine but the sole is definitely showing wear and they have almost 200kms on them. I've never worn the edge tokyos and now i'm thinking i should maybe return them and run in the skys even though they already have a good amount of miles on them. But also I'm getting the siren call of using the BAA discount on a pair of adidas racers like maybe the Adios... I feel like : \- sky paris is the safe choice because i know these shoes but they are technically past their prime so maybe a fresher shoe would be better \- edge tokyos could be fine but i bought them from asics and they don't do no-questions-asked returns anymore so I can't test them outside \- adidas shoes are a complete unknown but i could look really cool at the start line? and the marketing ploy of giving me 30% off is working on me unfortunately
ASICS and it's not even particularly close. Novablast for tempos, Dynablast for general aerobic, Superblast for long runs, Metaspeed Sky Paris for racing.
Daily miles: Novablast 5 Intervals/Tempo: EVO SL Easy/Recovery: NB 1080v14 Long Runs: SC Trainer v3 Trails: Zegama 2 Race Day: Metaspeed Sky Paris
I feel like I am right in your same position. I run in the EVO SL and Novablast 5 as my two primary shoes and I have above average width as well. My EVO SL and Novablast 5 are both in 10.5D (normal width). My current racing shoe is the Metaspeed Sky Paris and I went up half a size to 11D and they are PERFECT. I have run both half marathons and full marathons in them. Before I bought them, I was also worried about them being too narrow, but the upper has a nice stretch to it that is very accommodating. I have had 0 foot issues with these shoes. Highly recommend.
Maybe I'm an outlier, I used my asics metaspeed sky paris for a 13 mile run before their first race use and since then I have only use them for the three marathons run in the past 13 months. The rest of the time I am running in the Asics Gel Nimbus. My thinking is two fold, keep the expensive shoes for races so the mileage isn't 'wasted' on training runs, secondly, I am training my body with heavier, less responsive shoes, basically the equivalent of running hills or doing weights.
Mine are at 300 now and definitely starting to fade, hoping i can find a new/used pair somewhere for cheap
I have the Sky Paris and will tell you that if you even heel strike a little bit, you should look elsewere. To me, the Puma deviate Nitro Elite 3 is a wonderful choice when you factor in everything - lightness, responsiveness, durability, comfort, fit and price. It's the goldilocks of shoes. Sure, the sky Paris might be a tad quicker (altho, I have all my PB's in the puma to be fair...) but is much less stable and comfortable. I ran a while in the Adios Pro 4, but found the heel to be a bit wobbly and the fit/sizing a mess (as usual with Adidas). The vaporfly is just meh, and not really cushioned enough for a full Marathon in my opinion and the Alphafly has too much of a mechanical feel (not to mention insanely priced). The Saucony Endorphin Pro 5 is a good option which is supposed to be a bit more stable than many other super shoes, but I'd take the Deviate Elite 3 over them any day of the week. If you don´t have too much of a wide foot - I'd highly recommend the Deviate Nitro Elite 3 (which also can be found relatively cheap at around 180$ on various sales). For reference I'm 175 lbs, M38 and ran my last Marathon at 2:56 (in the Pumas).
For me, the OG Superblast 1 is worth the money because you get a long run and a speed trainer in one package. Two shoes in one. I believe that is the case with the Superblast 2 (which I did not like) so it's worth the money I believe. For long runs I use the Superblast 1 or the Vomero Plus. Speed trainer I use the Evo SL, Adios 9, Rebel v4 or any of my carbon-plated race-day shoes like the Adios Pro 3 or the Asics Metaspeed Sky Paris.
I agree, I have the sky Paris, and while they are brilliant shoes, they are far too unstable for me to use at even HM pace until I build more of an aerobic base to control my form better late on. They do me well for 5-10k races, but I didn’t really buy them for that, so I almost feel like having them is a waste. If I could do it over again I’d just stick to the sc elites, like you mentioned. They seem to work for a larger group of paces and runners in general!
I ran my 5k in asics sky Paris and 10k yesterday in Alphafly 3 41:48. sky Paris is fast but ap3 is more bouncy and felt more safe and stable.
