I do: \- 1 pair race shoes - for races and time trials (maybe one long run if marathon training and haven't gone more than 21km in them) \- 1-2 pair workout shoes - for any run with marathon pace or faster, race shoes turn into workout shoes after around 200km \- 2 pair daily trainers - for easy runs Specifically right now: race shoe: asics metaspeed edge tokyo workout shoes: asics metaspeed sky paris, New Balance SuperComp Elite V4 easy shoes: nike pegasus 41, hoka mach 6 I mostly retire shoes once they hit 800-1000km or feel terrible to run in. I get my easy run shoes as on sale as possible, usually grabbing last year pegasus, novablast, nimbus, mach, or w/e on sale. If I were you I'd start by just buying 2 different pairs of shoes for easy running, and tracking mileage on them. If you feel so inclined or find a good price then you can buy some fancy racing shoes, and use them for big speed days too if you want.
Every runner is different but ASICS is going to alienate a lot of runners with how unstable and soft the new race foam is. I’ll admit I loved how fast their new versions are and even raced 2 marathons and a half marathon in them (including all my long runs and MP workouts). But the instability is one wrong step from a sprained ankle (and in my case, a tendon sprain). I went back to their Paris versions. See if you can cop some of those on a discount. The foam is a bit firmer and will provide some support.

I use a shoe like Endorphin Speed or Sonicblast for tempo and threshold sessions. For Vo2 max and intervals less thab 800m, I generally use and old race shoe. Right now, thay is the Metaspeed Sky Paris.
i feel like the metsapeed sky paris is definitely a stiffer ride which I think I like when I pick up the pace. Are you saying AP4 is a soft shoe?
Yeah I used the sky paris (old pair) for the half marathon and they felt fine but the sole is definitely showing wear and they have almost 200kms on them. I've never worn the edge tokyos and now i'm thinking i should maybe return them and run in the skys even though they already have a good amount of miles on them. But also I'm getting the siren call of using the BAA discount on a pair of adidas racers like maybe the Adios... I feel like : \- sky paris is the safe choice because i know these shoes but they are technically past their prime so maybe a fresher shoe would be better \- edge tokyos could be fine but i bought them from asics and they don't do no-questions-asked returns anymore so I can't test them outside \- adidas shoes are a complete unknown but i could look really cool at the start line? and the marketing ploy of giving me 30% off is working on me unfortunately
ASICS and it's not even particularly close. Novablast for tempos, Dynablast for general aerobic, Superblast for long runs, Metaspeed Sky Paris for racing.
Daily miles: Novablast 5 Intervals/Tempo: EVO SL Easy/Recovery: NB 1080v14 Long Runs: SC Trainer v3 Trails: Zegama 2 Race Day: Metaspeed Sky Paris
I feel like I am right in your same position. I run in the EVO SL and Novablast 5 as my two primary shoes and I have above average width as well. My EVO SL and Novablast 5 are both in 10.5D (normal width). My current racing shoe is the Metaspeed Sky Paris and I went up half a size to 11D and they are PERFECT. I have run both half marathons and full marathons in them. Before I bought them, I was also worried about them being too narrow, but the upper has a nice stretch to it that is very accommodating. I have had 0 foot issues with these shoes. Highly recommend.
Haven't tried the nb elite, but based on what you said about which shoes work, I think we are in a similar boat. My current race shoe is the Metaspeed Sky Paris. I usually wear 10.5 2E in most shoes or 10.5D in wider shoes, like the novablast 5 or EVO SL. I sized up half a size to 11 for the Metaspeed Sky and they are fantastic. No foot problems at all. I was worried originally from reviews but the upper is very accommodating.
I have wide feet and normally wear 10.5 2e. I currently race in the asics metaspeed sky series (currently have Paris) and they are fantastic. I did size up to an 11, but they are surprisingly comfortable with a stretchy upper. Ran my marathon in them in November and had no feet issues at all.
Maybe I'm an outlier, I used my asics metaspeed sky paris for a 13 mile run before their first race use and since then I have only use them for the three marathons run in the past 13 months. The rest of the time I am running in the Asics Gel Nimbus. My thinking is two fold, keep the expensive shoes for races so the mileage isn't 'wasted' on training runs, secondly, I am training my body with heavier, less responsive shoes, basically the equivalent of running hills or doing weights.
Mine are at 300 now and definitely starting to fade, hoping i can find a new/used pair somewhere for cheap
