SUPERBLAST 2
Marathon workhorse, but loud and clunky at slow paces.

Please help me find an excuse to keep a 4 shoe rotation for training for my FIRST half marathon 😂🙄 I have only ever had the Novablasts 2 which I used for 4 years and are totally dead now. Therefore, I have ordered the following: • **NewBalance Rebel v5** \- not much to say about them. Have heard of durability issues but liked the feel. I guess if I ***have to*** return any, it would be these. • **Asics Novablast 5** (for obvious reasons, definitely keeping them as I was doing so well with the 2’s). I like that they are foamy and fun, make me faster rather than slow me down. However, I am a little worried about my shins in the long run, they don’t seem to have as much front support as the others and they worked for up to 10k but now I want to go further. • **Asics Gel Nimbus 28** \- it was on sale and a good deal, I have heard great things about them. Have only tested on the treadmill for a little and feels different… but I would loooove to keep it for easy days, they also seem to cover where the Novablasts lack, but that’s just my first impression - would love to know what you think about them • **Adidas Boston 13** \- it was love at first try. I know I am sort of a beginner therefore they are *thecnically* not for me, but I LOVED them. Got a recent PB on my first run with them, plus they look amazing. Definetly keeping as already used, but maybe they can not be for every run at my level. I live in Europe and they don’t allow to try the shoes properly and return them, so, except for the Bostons which I am keeping for sure, I have only tested a little on my at-home freshly cleaned treadmill. I honestly just ordered all with the idea of trying on and deciding for one 🙈 but now I am with this crazy idea of keeping all, and would like to hear from you if you have any advice on what to and what not to keep…
And that’s totally fair! been running for years with just the one, that’s why I came here to check on the general opinion on whether it’s reasonable or not to get more, and which would make sense. Never in my life I have thought of owning multiple pairs of trainers at the same time, but I have also noticed recently that a few people do that as a rotation. When I say it’s a stretch on my budget, I say that I don’t ***like*** to spend much money with clothes, never have. Usually prioritize other things. But I have the money, I am not rich at all but I will be totally fine even if I keep all of them, which I am still deciding on. I would also intend to use the same pairs for years, as I don’t feel the need for the most modern shoes at all, just the ones I like and feel good. That being said, with all the comments into consideration, I will most likely keep the 3 with the Nimbus, or the 2 (Boston and Novablast), and eventually buy the Nimbus in a few months if I still really really want them.
There is no such thing as running store that gets you fitted where I live, sadly. I based myself on what has worked for me so far. I just saw someone commenting who has 10 pairs for their first marathon, so it really depends on the person. But I totally agree that there is no need for 3 pairs. I also believe that social media makes us think we need way more gear than we actually need for running, unless you are a pro, which I will never be.
My pair of NB5 is fine (less than 150 km), and my longest run so far is 3.5 hours at around 6:30 min/km pace. I weigh only about 55 kg and wear men's size 8, maybe because of my light weight. In addition, my two pairs of NB2 are still going strong after 800 km, though I can only use them for runs under 80 minutes or so.
Speed 2 is the only one without any single word to be not positive. My Nova blast 2 shuts down immediately after 300 miles and it is too wide for me.
Depressed—I’ve had 7-8 pairs of ASICS in the last few years. A hole appears in the upper mesh every single time, and seemingly happens faster with each pair. Think this time I’m finally done & trying a new brand: just got this last Lite-2 pair in the mail in early February and have noticed how thin the fabric is ALREADY above the same old spot, it’s a matter of days or weeks. Any advice or tips to pass along to me before I write off ASICS altogether?
I only do 4-8 miles a week and only do 8 mile weeks for maybe two months a year. Because of that I went from the novablast 2 to the 5 and man they are so much better. Glad to hear it’s the same with superblast
The drop on those is too high, that’s why I stopped running the ghost but if you don’t mind that drop then yes the durability is great I will say though I’d rather run Pegasus over ghost if drop wasn’t a problem. Pegasus are my daily walk / travel shoes while novablast / endorphin speed are my running rotation
I have decided to just buy 3 Megablast 2 next year and rotate. I have ZF6, Nimbus 27 and Megablast and I have to force myself to use ZF6 and Nimbus. 😭😭
