"I get pain in my knees and ankles even when just wearing the novablasts for walking! ... Worst $150 ever spent."
"I get toe joint pain in my right foot after every run in them. ... I was so upset. ... Could be that they are too tight in the toe box and I need to go a few sizes up but a real shame."

"Personally the Novablast isn’t stable at all. ... The midfoot is narrow and the foam is too soft. ... When I tried them on in the store my feet were wobbling just from walking."

"the shoe lacks traction on wet roads imo so thankfully it wasn’t raining"
"Not the greatest outsole on wet surfaces"
"Yeah they can be a little slippery."

"felt it went flat about 15 miles into a long run"
"not for long, fast runs"
"It has a little more bounce and cushion, which is fine when I'm not covering a greater distance. I wear the Asics Kayano for anything greater than eight miles. Halfs, 10-milers, marathons."

"the toe box is too narrow ... I keep getting blisters on my baby toe, especially if I run more than 6k."
"So I had the same exact problem with the same shoe"
"the 4’s were irritating my pinkie toes at my regular size."
Go to a store with a real running shoe section and try em out. Jog around the shoe dept in them. Some have more support with less cushion (ie Brooks GTS), some have a lot of cushion but sloppy support (some of those fat cushion ones feel like running in sand to me lol), some are right in the middle. If you have a store that can do gait analysis, definitely do it. Running specific stores can be hard to find, but sporting goods stores like Scheels, Dicks, etc often have a good selection of running shoes. I've never had any problems returning shoes to Scheels. One thing to keep in mind is how they feel in the store don't always translate to how they feel a mile or so into a run. If they don't feel good on the road, bring them back and try another. I run quite a bit and have a rotation of shoes. Everything from a soft daily trainer to carbon plate race shoe. My current fav daily trainer is the Asics Novablast 5. They are soft, but not too sloppy. Put about 350 miles on the Novablast 4s before this and they were pretty good too. Might be able to find them on sale.
I ran my first marathon in 4 hours 45 minutes in New balance 1080 v13. I highly recommend them. I tried the nike invincible 3 and novablast 4 in my long runs, but the 1080s were just perfect, comfortable and stable.
PR'd Twin Cities Marathon in Asics Metaspeed Edge on Sunday -- amazing experience. Just cushy enough to feel natural, light, and so so speedy. I tested them with a half a few weeks ago and there were immediate pace differences compared with my normal trainers. Did Brooklyn Half 2025 in Saucony Endorphin Elite -- also fast, and great rocking feeling, but a little hard feeling and personally felt more unstable to me than Asics Metaspeed. I ran NYC marathon in 2024 with Asicas Novablast 4 -- honestly these are still some of my fav shoes -- incredibly comfortable and bouncy feeling. Not racing shoes necessiraly but worked very well for my first marathon, and lasted for long after the race.
Same. My Novablast 4 wides are a hideous beige. Fortunately, the 5 wides are a a decent pink and coral.
I've really come to love the Novablast 4's and prefer them for all my runs (long runs, easy runs, speed work). I have a pair of the 5's in the box, but haven't tried them out on a run yet so can't review.
All 3 are quite narrow shoes so I wouldn’t recommend them. Supernova rise 2 wide toebox pero narrow sa mid. I’d recommend you get a free gait analysis sa kung san pinakamalapit sayo. But if di kaya, general reco ko is New Balance 1080, Hoka Arahi, Asics Novablast or Gel Nimbus, or Nike Pegasus or Structure. You don’t have to buy the latest model of the shoe if you’re on a budget. Kahit may Asics Novablast 5 na, I still recommend Novablast 4 to my friends kasi okay din naman tas mas mura or nakasale lagi kasi older version.
I loved the NB4s and did most of my last marathon training in them. Got the NB5s on release last year and don’t even have 100 miles on them. I don’t care for them at all. I’ve ran in a ton of shoes and the NB5s are some of the worst I have ran in. Just no energy or responsiveness for me. Like running in sand.
I have wide (2E) feet and EVO SL worked very well for me without sizing up. For reference, I had to full size up in Alphafly 3; Novablast 4 wide was slightly tight on the forefoot but manageable; adios pro 4 half size was still too tight. OP - you should give EVO SL a try. they are a joy to run in. They do take a bit of breaking in.
For everyday / easy / long runs, I love my ASICS Novablast 4 and Gel Nimbus 5. For speed / races, Nike Alphafly 3
I would go with Salomon aero glide 3. Had the NB4 and loved it but wouldn't go that distance in it. I had the SB2 but far too firm for me, I tried to persevere to break them in but returned them before they broke me in 😂. It find the Salomon aero glide 3 to be between those two extremes. It's just the right balance. It's my first Salomon and apparently it's night and day difference between any Salomon road runner they've done before. It even feels ASICS-esque in the way it runs.
Don't be afraid to try a couple of sizes in each shoe if you think you'll be between sizes. It's best to be sure. Also with the shoes you have, are you using the runners knot? (Making use of the 2 last lace holes) You should get a better lockdown with that. Here's some shoes that work for me that I recommend, but this is all personal preference so I won't make promises that these will be what you want. ASICS gel excite 11. (mine is the TR version) I took a gamble with these as I hadn't seen reviews and they don't have the celebrated foams of the more expensive models. But I'm so glad I got these, so fun to run in, feel light on foot, well cushioned. Fit me true to size. Can't recommend this enough, if I didn't already know the price I'd assume it cost £30-£40 more and even then I'd still be so happy with it. It's a steal. ASICS novablast 4. One of my first runners and it was a real pleasure to run in these. Soft and well stacked for a forgiving run. Great for going longer distances. Comfortable and light on foot. Fits TTS. I tried the version 5 a couple of months ago but I didn't like the way it felt. Only ran around the shop in it though, not the real world but it didn't feel as good as 4. Also now 5 is out you may get a great deal on the 4. Salomon aero glide 3. Another favourite of mine. Originally I had bought the superblast 2 on the strength of all the great reviews but just ran too firm for me and was hurting my feet. I tried to break them in but after a few runs I was still in pain and returned the SB2. Saw great reviews of the aero glide 3 and this has been a much better shoe. It's just right in terms of comfort if you want to run gentle or if you want to go fast. It gets the balance right as well where it's slightly firmer than novablast but still very comfortable. This helps with responsiveness on the run and has a nice rocker feel to help with stride. Also they made a great decision to put the stitching on the outside, meaning the inside is seamless. So no feeling your feet rub awkward against the shoe and in theory you shouldn't get blisters on longer runs. I haven't had any. Fits me TTS but on the first run I did have slight heel slippage on right foot. Once I used the runners knot it fit me perfectly for every run after that. Check out reviews for this one, it gets lots of praise. To me this feels how I expected the SB2 to feel, except this time Salomon came up with the goods. ASICS gel nimbus 27. Very comfortable max stack shoe for easy/recovery runs at relaxed pace. It does the job wonderfully if you're a bit worn out and just want a gentle short jog. Fits me TTS. One note of caution is I started wearing this whilst working and I'm on my feet all day and I felt like there was no arch support. The insole feels a bit flat. But if you use this in conjunction with other shoes, and only use this as a once a week gentle run like I do, it won't be a problem. In fact, it does very well in that respect. A 5-10km run in this once or twice in a week and you'll be good. Like I say it's all personal preference but if you find the time, give these a chance. Hope this has been a good help to you. All the best and happy new year
