Go to a store with a real running shoe section and try em out. Jog around the shoe dept in them. Some have more support with less cushion (ie Brooks GTS), some have a lot of cushion but sloppy support (some of those fat cushion ones feel like running in sand to me lol), some are right in the middle. If you have a store that can do gait analysis, definitely do it. Running specific stores can be hard to find, but sporting goods stores like Scheels, Dicks, etc often have a good selection of running shoes. I've never had any problems returning shoes to Scheels. One thing to keep in mind is how they feel in the store don't always translate to how they feel a mile or so into a run. If they don't feel good on the road, bring them back and try another. I run quite a bit and have a rotation of shoes. Everything from a soft daily trainer to carbon plate race shoe. My current fav daily trainer is the Asics Novablast 5. They are soft, but not too sloppy. Put about 350 miles on the Novablast 4s before this and they were pretty good too. Might be able to find them on sale.

I ran my first marathon in 4 hours 45 minutes in New balance 1080 v13. I highly recommend them. I tried the nike invincible 3 and novablast 4 in my long runs, but the 1080s were just perfect, comfortable and stable.

r/Marathon_TrainingWhat are your guys's race day shoes for half marathon/marathons?

PR'd Twin Cities Marathon in Asics Metaspeed Edge on Sunday -- amazing experience. Just cushy enough to feel natural, light, and so so speedy. I tested them with a half a few weeks ago and there were immediate pace differences compared with my normal trainers. Did Brooklyn Half 2025 in Saucony Endorphin Elite -- also fast, and great rocking feeling, but a little hard feeling and personally felt more unstable to me than Asics Metaspeed. I ran NYC marathon in 2024 with Asicas Novablast 4 -- honestly these are still some of my fav shoes -- incredibly comfortable and bouncy feeling. Not racing shoes necessiraly but worked very well for my first marathon, and lasted for long after the race.

Same. My Novablast 4 wides are a hideous beige. Fortunately, the 5 wides are a a decent pink and coral.

I've really come to love the Novablast 4's and prefer them for all my runs (long runs, easy runs, speed work). I have a pair of the 5's in the box, but haven't tried them out on a run yet so can't review.

All 3 are quite narrow shoes so I wouldn’t recommend them. Supernova rise 2 wide toebox pero narrow sa mid. I’d recommend you get a free gait analysis sa kung san pinakamalapit sayo. But if di kaya, general reco ko is New Balance 1080, Hoka Arahi, Asics Novablast or Gel Nimbus, or Nike Pegasus or Structure. You don’t have to buy the latest model of the shoe if you’re on a budget. Kahit may Asics Novablast 5 na, I still recommend Novablast 4 to my friends kasi okay din naman tas mas mura or nakasale lagi kasi older version.

r/AskRunningShoeGeeksAsics Novablast 5 - not as good as I thought. Should I give them more time?

I loved the NB4s and did most of my last marathon training in them. Got the NB5s on release last year and don’t even have 100 miles on them. I don’t care for them at all. I’ve ran in a ton of shoes and the NB5s are some of the worst I have ran in. Just no energy or responsiveness for me. Like running in sand.

r/AskRunningShoeGeeksAdidas Evo SL for Wide Feet

I have wide (2E) feet and EVO SL worked very well for me without sizing up. For reference, I had to full size up in Alphafly 3; Novablast 4 wide was slightly tight on the forefoot but manageable; adios pro 4 half size was still too tight. OP - you should give EVO SL a try. they are a joy to run in. They do take a bit of breaking in.

Ideally you’ll have multiple running shoes as your mileage increases. ASICS nova blasts line up are great all around shoes for some tempo, long run, easy run shoes. But I’d say they’re a little on the narrow side. (I run in nova blast 4 as my everyday trainers) Nike zoom fly 6’s are great shoes for tempo run or shorter race day shoes as they have a carbon plate and I’d say are too stiff for everyday trainers. Also a little on the narrower side. Options: Saucony endorphin speed 4’s, adidas adizero EVO SL, new balance SC trainer v3’s (carbon plate), asics super blast 2’s, nike invincible 3’s, asics nova blast 4 & 5. These are all shoes I would consider for daily trainers that can do a variety of runs. If you have a running store near you, definitely give them a visit as I’m sure they’ll have a majority of these shoes to try on.

For everyday / easy / long runs, I love my ASICS Novablast 4 and Gel Nimbus 5. For speed / races, Nike Alphafly 3
