I’m a very similar runner to you pace-wise and stability-wise. I’m running in the Asics SB3 and Saucony Azura after also searching for a HM shoe (brooks glycerin GTS for marathon training/long runs). Loving them both! The asics are much softer compared to the firmness of the Azura so it may be a personal preference as well. Good luck!
The Superblast3’s are supposed to be considerably softer than the 2s. Although the 2’s do have a bit of a break-in period, they will never be a soft, bouncy shoe. I happen to love them and just bought my second pair while they were still in stock.
Superblast3s coming out this month. ASICS had 40% off SB2 in Australia last week to clear some stock. If you like them, have a look at sales and price match at your local retailer. I just picked up my 3rd pair because I've enjoyed them so much and 40% off was too tempting.
This is more of a tempo shoe. In terms of daily trainers there's 4 ways you can kind of go. You can get a versatile, lower stack pegasus type daily trainer (the best ones are probably the velocity nitro 4 and li ning red hare 9 pro), you could get a max cushion longer run shoe (like a magmax 2, superblast 3 or Vomero plus for something a bit more versatile), you can get a carbon tempo shoe (like the ZF6 but the deviate nitro 4 is probably a better shoe) or you can get a supertrainer (like the Megablast or Xiaonian) for something with a greater range. I'm biased because it's my daily but I love the Xiaonian due to it's versatility. Even if I'm doing intervals or tempo stuff I usually put these on over my carbon plated shoes it's that good. Also a good easy shoe
Agree with this. I like my XiaoNian more than my SB3.
My average pace on this morning’s 12k was 4:19/km and my SB3’s weren’t shining for me but I guess that’s relative. It hasn’t felt like a different shoe to me at lower or higher speeds. It’s just the same shoe that’s easy on my body but hard on my HR and times relative to other racers I’ve worn for the last 3 months (Endorphin Elite 2 and Metaspeed Sky). After 48k, I definitely wouldn’t call the SB3 a tempo/interval shoe but that’s probably just my opinion.
So funny you say this because I was just thinking the exact same thing. I don’t know if this is something or nothing but it feels like I’m working harder to maintain my typical pace. My watch says I’m 3 bpm more than typical. I’ve only got 25k on them so they’re not broken in and I’m expecting them to feel better when they’re fully broken in.
Higher HR in the SB3 is not just you. My HR is 3-5 bpm more in SB3 than other shoes after 48k. It’s frustrating for me because I train to lower my HR and increase my speed. I don’t dislike the shoe. I don’t feel like it’s broken in after 48k so I think it’s going to be even faster when it is broken in. It might even be a good training shoe in the end because it’s easy on my body and forces me to focus on proper posture and form to achieve high speed.
That's amazing you got so much out of them! Novablast 5 are still my favorite shoe I've had so far but my foam went dead after about 200 miles so I really didn't want to spend the money again for such short longevity. I tried the superblast 3 and had to return. They made my feet hurt so badly!! I just got the evo SL for my long runs and the sc elite v5 for my speedwork and race day. Really loving the the evo sl and can't wait to take them on a longer run tomorrow.
If you like Asics can’t go wrong with the Superblast 2 or 3. You can get the 2 for $150 right now; main difference between that and the 3 is the 3 is a bit softer and bouncier. Also, if your half truly has just light trail and fire road, you could probably rock the Salomon Aero Glide 4 GRVL or the Mount to Coast H1. The Salomon I think would make a more versatile hiking/backpacking shoe compared to the H1.
I was in the same boat, didn't like so much my SB2, went for the SB3 and they are a different beast. I went to try the kipstorm and was really impressed , I will get a pair very soon. The issue I have with decathlon is that they will make at most 10% sale k these , and at 140 retail they are above some category shoes when those are on sale . https://preview.redd.it/ik2qmaoiblng1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5d73d7b8c3a32e8def7fddd629f99b1d2681147 Their long run shoe also is tempting
Own both and don’t see an overlap. Although I would have a dedicated race shoe.
