I'm a new balance 1080 stan. I have the 1080 V14s and I love them. I went to fleet feet and did that whole thing, i have a neutal gait, and a narrow foot on the flatter side. I wear normal width. I size up a half size. They had recommended me the Brooks Glycerin 23s and after a couple weeks those gave me super bad heel pain so they went back to the store. I recommend going to a store where you can return the shoes if they don't work for you
Hi all, I am a flat footed overpronator new to running. I initially got the new balance 1080s and HATED the marshmallow feel and it felt so unstable. So i went to a running store and they recommended the Brooks Glycerin 23 and the ASICS Gel Kayano 32. I was so torn between these two because I did notice the kayano’s were a bit softer with more arch support but I was traumatized by the NB marshmallows and went with the Brooks Glycerin. I was told they are plush (but they seem very firm to me) Did my first run in them today and it feel very firm, almost hard? They also felt large (i have narrow feet) and heavy. I felt like they weren’t protecting my feet from the concrete impact and the bottom of my feet hurt and my ankles + shins hurt. But…im also a new runner and maybe some pain is to be expected? I am very confused now - how much pain is expected? What is normal? And are the Brooks a firm shoe?? Supposedly its plush but it feels firm?
Brooks glycerin 22 or 23…only brooks shoe I will wear…dna adapt foam is great for walking or jogging…
…I just switched to Brooks Glycerin and Glycerin max and both are wide but come in wider versions…the DNA adapt foam is something that I like…didn’t like alit of the other foams from Brooks…switched from Nike Vomero and New Balance 880 combo…I am a heavier runner (possible fast jogger if I’m being honest) just my 2 cents…
Your foot is overpronating. Look at something with more support on the medial side. One of my favourites is a Brooks Glycerin GTS 23
I tried both the Brooks Glycerin 23 and the ASICS Gel Nimbus 28, and they both felt comfortable. The Nimbus 28 seemed a bit more squishier upon impact. I’m a guy, if that makes any difference. What do people usually recommend between the Glycerin 23 and the Nimbus 28? Is it worth going with the Glycerin 22 or Nimbus 27 instead to save some money?
Brooks Glycerin 23s. I use them for 5Ks and 10Ks as well as my daily walks with my dog.
I’m a new runner looking for a pair of daily trainers, I’m 76kg and will be doing a slow 9/km pace. I have short (size 7) but wide feet so have issues with sizing Measurements: Length 26, width 10.5, 25.4 around I’ve tried brooks glycerin gts 23 in an 8 wide however they were too narrow at the mid foot once my feet started to swell I’ve ordered the adrenaline gts 25 in an 8.5 wide however they feel like the heel may slip slightly Other options are the gaviota 6 and gel kayano 32 wide - I’d probably start with an 8 in both Is anyone else in the same boat and what have you found works for you?
I wanted to share a few observations from my first few weeks with the Glycerin GTS 23 to help anyone considering this shoe, especially if you need some stability support. For context, I am a midfoot striker with mild overpronation on my right side. 95kg with a larger build and currently running roughly 30km per week, easy runs, recovery runs, and longer runs. I’ve moved into more stability shoes while recovering from a medial ankle injury related to the post tibialis and it’s helped me on the road to recovery along with some strength work. I was in the market for another shoe to accompany my pair of ASICS Gel Kayano 31. Those ASICS have been great and still actually have plenty of miles left in them, but since moving to a stability shoe to help with the recovery, they have been my only pair, so I wanted to try something different. Enter the Brooks Glycerin GTS 23. So far, I have done a few 5Ks and a couple of 10Ks in them, and I am really enjoying them. The first thing I noticed was how quiet they are. My Kayanos always felt quite loud and slappy, which has never really gone away. The Glycerins, on the other hand, feel very quiet and smooth. Cushioning: Firm but cushioned. They are not squishy at all, but nicely damped and controlled. They also feel light and responsive. There is no overly bouncy or squishy sensation, which I personally really like. Stability: The GuideRails system works really well. I slightly overpronate on my right foot, and it seems to manage this really well without feeling intrusive. The Kayanos are also excellent in this regard, but their support feels more pronounced and tends to push your feet outward, whereas the Glycerins keep your feet feeling balanced and more centered. This also makes them more suitable for regular walking. Fit: For me, these are true to size. I wear a uk11 in the Kayanos and an 11 in these as well. They may be slightly narrower and a little shallower toward the toe, but nothing significant. They feel great on foot. Upper: Luxurious, very padded, and very close in feel to the Kayano, especially with the padding around the heel collar. I had a slight hot spot near the big toe on the first wear, but this has now disappeared and they feel great. Grip: Grip has been solid so far. I have had no issues on canal paths or tarmac, both in dry and wet conditions. Overall, I really like these, and they are a great addition to my Kayanos as part of a stability shoe rotation.
For sure, I'm enjoying these shoes for now, I did have some soreness after my latest long run but I'm putting that down to a terrain shift, less so the shoes. Yeah, thanks, it's been many months work actually, it all went pear shaped around June last year, I thought I'd be back after a week or so but I had to take a good few months off. Threw in some strength work and I'm slowly getting back up to where I was, albeit taking it very easy and not pushing it. Injury can be a dog.
I can’t really comment on any previous iteration as this is my first ever brooks shoe. Compared against the Kayano however they *feel* lighter. I guess the flat slappy feel of the Kayano gives them a more blocky and heavy ride but it could all be in my head. I also think the firmer nature of the glycerin lends them to a more peppy run.
