r/beginnerrunningWhat running shoes do you have and what do you use them for?

I'm a heavy runner, currently 214lbs. Was 236lbs when I started back in December. Originally got a pair of Brooks Adrenaline and it was great but I was wearing it out quickly. I use it for walking now. I have a pair of Brooks Hyperion Max 2 that I use for Tempo and Base runs. Nike Zoom Fly 6 for Threshold and Race day. Nike Zoom Rival Fly for easy, base and treadmill runs. I was also a sneaker head before getting into running so I don't need any extra reasons to buy a new one lol. I do notice wearing different sneakers for each run has minimized my fatigue.

I (F39) liked hyp max 2 more than 3 (ran marathon in them 3:44), was super excited for 3 but they hurt me. I did like brooks Hyperion elite and ran a half in them (1:39), and will run a full in them next week. I would also recommend Asics Sonicblast - great light plated shoes for short picks ups/tempo runs. I ran 14mi tempo in them and regretted (knee joints felt meh afterwards) but shorted intervals are great in them (the other day I ran mile repeats 7:10 and 6:50 instead of 7:40 bc I didn’t even feel the pace).

Did NB revamp the Rebel between v4 and v5? I have the v4 as my long run shoe and its done me real well. I did have to go up a full size since they dont make a 13.5 but even with the slightly larger shoe they feel good. My recent HM (3 weeks ago in the Brooks Hyperion Max 2, nylon plated) was ata 10:36/mi pace. My longest run in the v4 is 15 miles at a 10:49/mi pace. Unfortunately at 230-235 lbs I have never been one to "feel" a pop or bounce in a shoe. I mainly just focus on fit and how my legs feel. I can say after 15 miles in the v4 last week my legs were fine the day after so that to me says the shoe is doing its job but, IDK.

r/AskRunningShoeGeeksShoes for quicker sessions for person with pronation issues?

I also overpronate a little and ran 2 HM in the Brooks Hyperion GTS 2... a very light and fast shoe but depends on your preferences if the cushioning is enough for you for that distance. Still a great shoe for 5k or 10k. Wouldn't use it for longer than HM, though. Regardless of that, maybe stable neutral shoes also work for you as for me? I have no issues in Asics Superblast 2, Puma Deviate Nitro 3. I hear the Deviate Nitro Elite 3 are also quite stable. I also ran HM distance in Brooks Hyperion Max 2 (not my favorite, too stiff and unstable. Liked it for 10k but found better options now), Brooks Hyperion Elite 4 PB (very comfy, bouncy and fast, but not a stability shoe, so not very stable, still enough for me)

I’m a bit larger 105kg, 6’5”, and size 15, but I run very similar paces as you so I think I can help quite a bit. I am A mid foot to forefoot runner as an fyi. I have tried a lot of different temp shoes and my favorite that I have tried have oddly enough been the Brooks Hyperion Max 2 and Max 3s. I definitely like the Max 2s more, RIP, but they were amazing for both a tempo run, but versatile enough to take them out for a long runs. The only shoe on your list that I have tried so far is the adidas Boston’s. I had tried the 12s and the were awesome as a daily trainer and when I wanted to pick it up a little, but the Hyperion Max’s just felt like the were a little easier to sustain the higher paces in

I was fortunate enough to get about 600km out of the first pair of Hyperion Max 2s bought a second pair and those are sitting at 330km. I got the Hyperion Max 3s in hopes that it would be super similar, but with the Brooks DNA Gold they are vastly different shoes. I just got the Max 3s a couple weeks ago so I haven’t put too many miles on them yet to give them a proper review. One thing I will say is that the Max 2s won’t force you to go fast, but they will help you when you want to. The Hyperion Max 3s from my couple of runs with them only want to go fast

Took the Hyperion Max 3 out for a 8km Base run this morning where I had some intervals of picking up the pace just so I could try and provide better feedback, and unfortunately I do think the Max 2 was the better tempo option. The Max 3 definitely doesn’t want to go slow, but it also definitely doesn’t want to sprint by any means. It felt like it would be a great option for longer runs where you are getting close to race pace or something slightly faster than your daily mileage, but definitely not for anything super speedy like the Hyperion Max 2 could handle

Saucony Triumph 23 or Saucony Ride 18, Brooks Hyperion Max 2

only the best :-). it's a shoe for daily training, runs up to half marathon distance at an easier or even marathon pace, it can handle speed fartleks well, I definitely wouldn't use it for recovery runs....the ride is firmer, fantastic upper, good sole........and now it's on a big discount :-)

Brooks! Affordable, local (to me in Seattle), and now have everything from solid daily trainers, to max cushion, to stability, race flats, super trainers, and super shoes I train in the glycerins and ghosts and race in the Hyperion max 2 (will probs have to switch to the 3 soon)

r/AskRunningShoeGeeksEndorphin Pro 4 or Hyperion Max 2 for Tempo Runs and Intervals?

Different shoes for different use cases. I have the HM2 and Pro3. The HM2 are my shoe of the year of 2024. They are really good for tempo and the fit, upper and laces are the best I ever had, and I own 20 pairs. They are quite firm but responsive the ES4 are too me, squishy and just boring.

Brooks Hyperion max 2’s. My go to race shoe. Or, glycerine gts for shorter runs. I have a size 14 wide foot and they fit great.

r/AskRunningShoeGeeksTempo/threshold vs V02/sprints - same shoes or different?

For me, my daily trainer is my recovery shoe. It's usually a shoe that I bought for something else or got on sale or a distance trainer that is about used up. Nothing special. Just getting in some miles. (Waverider 28, Vomero 17, Triumph 20) I have a lighter, generally firmer shoe for interval day (VO2 max) (Hyperion Max, Noosa Tri) I use a plusher shoe with more rocker for tempo/threshold day (Hyperion Max 2) Long run is a comfy, very plush shoe with decent energy return. (Balos, Glideride Max 2) At least that's the thought.
